He's just pointing out that having very little friction from the skinny metal wheels, like train wheels, don't allow for sudden stops. The smoothness of the ride doesn't have much to do with it.

I have a cool idea for you guys. Remove the spark plugs from the engine, and try driving on starter motor only. Just put it in first gear, release the clutch, and hit the ignition and see how far it will go until it finally burns out.

True story, I had a hire car a little Fiat, it ran out of petrol about a mile from home some was down hill, but the flat bits and a small amount of uphill, she ran on the starter motor in 3rd gear at about 15mph, no problem I was amazed how well it went.

vitameat you’d have to brake earlier for the corners if you tried taking that car round a race track because, as you can see, manhole covers don’t offer much in the way of traction. Nurburgring Nordschleife is 24 kilometres long, so you’ll be there all day.

You should weld some paddles on them for off-road. In the delta, farmers will weld paddles to the rims of their farm trucks, with tires still on, so they can drive in the fields. When the tires sink a little in the mud the paddles start to pull.

If you could turn down the thickness of the manhole covers and add 2 or 3 more calipers, you could have the world's largest set of disc brakes. On 38 inch tires, that might be pretty useful.
