I just returned from Da Nang 1 month ago. I loved it.I did not meet any ex Pats while there but I met many vietnamese people. They were very kind and helpful. I absolutely loved this trip

Very informative. I've recently been coming across your videos. Starting in Mexico. Very cool. I'm actually born in Vietnam at the very end of the Big War. Been back to visit a few times. But am shocked by the change. So, I'd consider at least hanging out in Vietnam for a year of my retirement. I was a backpacker for a few years, so I want to return to that life for a while until my knees give me a hard time!

I love Vietnam, and especially DaNang. The only “obstacle” is the language barrier. Vietnamese is not easy to learn. However, it amazes me the enthusiasm of the young people to learn English and and to approach you just so they can practice. Filipino people are my southeast Asian favs, but Vietnamese people are still very cool as well.

Hi there. I love your videos but wanted to point something out on this one as not to (potentially) lead anyone astray. While US citizens who hold one year Vietnam visas may only need to make one 'visa run' per year they are STILL required to leave the country every 90 days (they can't stay continuously for one year). I learned this lesson the hard way and so did a friend of mine. I'd been living in Saigon for a while then left to go to DaNang. At one point my friend mentioned the 90 day rule totally in passing (months before had gone past the 90 day stay period on his one year visa and was held for a time at a border crossing). At the time he mentioned this I'd already been in Vietnam for over 5 months! So long story short, I went to immigration, wrote down my story (why I overstayed), paid a fine ($180 USD, as I recall) and was then given one week to exit the country. I was told that after leaving the country I was free to come back in on the same visa, no problem. I suppose it's possible the rules could have changed since then but according to the websites I checked just before writing this comment they haven't. Just thought you might want to double check it. Thanks!

I am a US/UK dual national who visited Vietnam, including Da Nang, in December 2013. I am retiring at the end of next year and have some questions: 1. What is the best URL to find an apartment in Da Nang for six months (November-April)? 2. How much does a house cleaner charge per hour in Da Nang? 3. How much do laundries charge for a service wash including wash, fold, and ironing? Do laundries charge by article of clothing or by kilo. 4. It seems that November is still monsoon in Vietnam. Are there any cities in Vietnam that have less rain in November?

Can you also please tell me how you pay for rent for most of the places that you stayed at in VN? Do those places in general accept a US credit card as payment or do we have to get cash out of ATMs and how does it work?
@VagabondAwake

I get cash out of the ATM. I use my credit cards only in an emergency. I never give my credit cards to people. Too much hassle when the cards numbers get ripped off when you are outside the USA. It can take a week to get a new card overnighted to you in a foreign country. Thanks for asking and thanks for commenting. Dan

Dan, in My An and central Da Nang , do they post prices of dishes in restaurants, either on the menu or on their walls? Please clarify this. Thank you 👍
@VagabondAwake
4 жыл бұрын
Yes. 99% of restaurants all over the world post prices on the menu or the walls. I never eat in a restaurant that doesn't post prices on a menu or the wall. Never. Never. You almost never see a restaurant anywhere in the world that doesn't post prices. The only places you will see that is in snotty restaurants. They think they can embarrass you into not asking the price. When I see a menu with no prices. I just walk away. But it almost never happens. Some street cart vendors can't read or write so they may not have a price. You have to ask. But they are usually under $1 USD worldwide.

Just wondering how one retires in Vietnam when there is no semblance of a retirement visa to be seen . Tourist visas are now going from 3 month visa runs to 1 monthly visa runs. Retire in Da Nang! Hardly possible. Malaysia has retirement visas no problem and simply catch a flight no visa of any kind needed. Seems like a more feasible option.
@VagabondAwake
4 жыл бұрын
The laws in Vietnam were changing too fast to understand for a few months and then CV19 hit and friends aren't doing visa runs. Lets wait and see what happens next. They may need the tourist dollars after this. You are right about Malaysia for sure. I love it.
