Honestly, If Russ had gone 0/10 I'd have still been hyped about his performance. In years past, the second Jokic sits, our players have looked like someone stole the rim off the backboard, and they spent 20 seconds of the shot clock trying to find it. Now, there is actual goals and direction, even if he can't finish, Russ is getting into the paint, collapsing defense, and making plays. Plus, his defense is solid (and will look even better next to Pwat), and he brings energy. Any points he scores is just a little bit of gravy on top.

You hit the nail on the head with the talk about non-Jokic minutes leader to me. Imo, what they've been sorely missing is a facilitator when Jokic isn't around. Someone who's able to get other people buckets pretty consistently. Plus his facilitation doesn't happen in the same way Jokic does it, which means other teams aren't gonna have a Jokic-light, but a completely different sort of passer/organizer to deal with, and thus their defense will have to adapt to a very different look. Plus Westbrook brings some great guard defense, and a lot of energy besides. He feels like a great fit to me.

If he can fill the Bruce Brown role of extra ball handler, rim running, tough nose defense, and provide energy and effort Russ will be a major key in who things play out in the West. And if he has a few turn back the clock games and has a 25,10,11 game every once in a blue moon when the Nuggets have bad shooting nights... Nuggets might be back on top again.

With Murray, Joker and Russ able to be playmaker, Gordon is going to feasting on cuts while MPJ gets off from 3. I can see Denver coming out of the west this year if they can get past OKC.

You just made a great case for why Murray isn't worth $50m, he could never run the team without Jokic out there actually running the team and Westbrook if he doesn't play with Jokic as much will prove that Jamal is nothing without Jokic. I actually really liked Murray until that case just popped into my head.

idk, man i watched that game and he's equal parts brilliance and utter idiocy. For every great defensive possession there is a possession where he forgets what he's supposed to be doing, for every brilliant floor read & dime, there's one completely unnecessary head down run to the basket without an obvious advantage with an atrocious finish. I think this particular game there was more pluses then minuses but he can't be in important games if he's going to be that inconsistent.

@@leonyses2887 sure, maybe, but these were not the mistakes of the sort that get made due to low effort or not knowing the scheme. Ok, him not boxing out is maybe him being tired bc his legs are still heavy from the training camp but him selling out on the perimeter actually takes extra effort, him running head down coast to coast, not even checking where his teammates are only to whif on a layup 3 times in 19 minutes those aren't either low effort nor schemes unfamiliarity mistakes. Those are hothead kid mistakes.

All nice when you look at convenient stats, but last playoffs he could not make a layup, shot 26%. 1.7 AST with 1.7 TOV! And this with a stacked team offensively. No, it wasnt because of Harden. A layup is a layup, no matter who is on the floor.
