Love is Sean, you have a wonderful voice. Would a shanty man on a ship traditionally be working with the crew in whatever they would be doing or be more of a supervisor or was the shanty man anyone of the crew who decided to start one off? Are you planning on touring in 2021 Sean? Keep up the great work and be safe!
@SeanDagher
3 жыл бұрын
I really really hope that I can be touring in 2021. As for the shantyman, there was a dedicated person whose role it was to lead the shanties, choosing the right song for the right kind of work. It is also important to decide when to sing the favourite songs and when to teach new ones, etc. The shantyman would have to have a memory like a steel trap, and really know the repertoire inside out.

Wonderful work you are doing sir. Perhaps you can enlighten me. I heard someone say, several years ago, that there are shanties for women to sing. They were sung when the ships came home and were hauled on shore. What where these shanties called ?
@SeanDagher
3 жыл бұрын
As far as I know it would have been many of the same songs. As most of the verses are either interchangeable or just templates for improvisation, a woman singing the verses would just adapt them to whatever story she wanted to tel, and from whatever perspective. but I'll see if I can find anything more specific than that.

Hello Sean, just one question.. I am playing the tin whistle and a friend of mine the guitar. Where can I find a book/collection to cover us with notes and chords? Those shanties of yours make a hard day much more easier to carry....taut and free🤔. 🙏.
@SeanDagher
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Dirk, Thanks for your message. I'm glad the music can help make your hard days easier. As for a book, there are a few shanty books but I don't think they would have guitar chords. You could play the melodies on whistle, for sure. There are, however, lots of song books of sea songs (not necessarily shanties) with melodies and guitar chords. I'm sure they are easy to find online. Seán.

Once I run out of pure shanties (work songs for work) I'm going to transition to sea songs about work then I guess eventually general sea songs about the sea. I really appreciate watching Sean grow and become more successful with his work. If you're reading this Sean, I sincerely wish you do well and that you manage to make your own great works as well that isn't strictly shanties (but maybe with the tone of a shanty?) I hope there might be more video-game music you would be associated to but I feel like that's a bit of a stretch. Still, Assassin's Creed black flag was my childhood and I'd like to hear more of these songs out there in the multiple industries out there.
