How to get good rules as an Ogors player: 1. Be patient and tell yourself next book is going to be the book. 2. Realize there is only a couple million years between a wolly mammoth and a T-Rex (they’re basically the same right?) 3. Play Seraphon, a faction that actually seems to mean something to someone at GW. Actual hopium time: With Skaven refreshed and Bonesplitterz and Beasts of Chaos gone, Ogors are the oldest range and will probably get refreshed next. This will happen with their 4th edition Battletome late summer 2025 and since GW is very much a company that uses strong rules to push sales of new releases, 4th edition Battletome will be the Age of Ogor.

looking at all the faction focuses so far, and, despite the more uniform presentation, it really does feel lke different factions were designed by different people with very different design sensibilities & ideas of what the balance was supposed to be. I'm still hype for 4e overall, but I think on aggregate I'm a bit /less/ hype than I was before the faction focuses started.

At least these seem to all be in a usable state, even if some are less exciting than others. Compare this to insane swings between the indexes for 40ks 10th edition where you had Eldar that everyone immediately noticed was comically broken and the Ad Mech which everyone immediately noticed "their faction ability is actually useless and most of their models suck"

I haven't gotten any experience playing AoS yet, but I am putting together a Seraphon army, so this is great. I am wondering if it might be a good idea to start with Quetzl the Preserver so that you get that rend protection in your territory for the whole game, you get a bit of extra protection for your Slann (who will probably be back there), and you get a bit more resilience against alpha strikes while also securing the Asterism that may be the most likely to be blocked at the beginning of the third round. I don't have experience to know how that would work out, but I look forward to trying all the different choices available from these Battle Traits.

Friendly Territory style bonuses are very battleplan dependent, so it’s more of a silver bullet. Sometimes friendly territory is half the map and sometimes it’s tiny. It just depends, so you might pick it if you have a ton of territory but if not 2” move is so much better or the companion weapon one

@@TheHutcharmy That's very useful to know! I had, in fact, envisioned that it would always he a half-board situation. Thanks for the advice and the welcome!

Welcome to the Jungle! Definitely excited for the new battle traits, in spite of how different they are, it feels thematic for the army. Unfortunately, I think you may be confusing how the asterisms are activated. When you pick one from the beginning, you have to then complete the task that corresponds with that asterism before you are allowed to pick another one. So while the -1 rend may certainly be strong, it's probably the hardest task to guarantee by battle round three, so it's unlikely you would get a second asterism out of it.

I wish the Engine was a prayer, but its worse. At least prayers let you see the dice value and increase by more than 1 a turn.

I think the vast majority of the groaning about faction focuses is people being too dumb to understand that they should not compare them to 3e rules, But Ogors, man, ogors. I am really hoping they get an early battletome and that's why they apparently forgot about giving them real battle traits

That and people not realizing the it's not even half the rules for a given army, we still don't have a complete picture of everything on a single army with all the subfaction rules and enhancements that will be available at launch. They should have called them "sneak peaks" or "appetizers" or something else, "faction focus" implies depth or completeness that they did not intend to provide at this stage.

hedonnites of slaanesh have it worse, don’t even get me started. They can’t use their battle trait cuz it buffs their enemies?!
