During Kabbalat Shabbat services at Temple Israel (West Bloomfield, Mich.), Rabbi Jennifer Kaluzny spoke on the recent Alabama Supreme Court decision (James LePage, et al. v. The Center for Reproductive Medicine and Mobile Infirmary Association) in which the court held that frozen embryos should be considered as living beings.
Rabbi Kaluzny shared that we need to ensure the separation of church and state; that the recent decisions in Alabama were against our religious freedoms. That as Americans, we should not want any state to cross the line nor define who is a human being based on their interpretations of the Bible.
