I've heard other baseball historians and writers say something before that I agree with, Baseball has never really had our Michael Jordan before until Shohei came along. The closest we got was maybe Ken Griffey but it still wasn't close to the effect of Jordan where even ppl who didnt follow basketball know of him. Shohei Ohtani is baseball's Michael Jordan where even ppl who never followed baseball have heard of his greatness and the special things that he's doing. A lot of ppl became baseball fans because of him too. We all just gotta sit back and realize we're watching history rn.

He is by far the most endorsed baseball player right now, he’s globally huge, he brings a lot of fans to seats even in road games, even players from opposing teams would clamor to take pictures with him at all star festivities, and he’s currently the highest paid athlete in north american sports. no the staff give out 1 bobblehead per ticket, if you line up again you wont get one cuz your ticket has been scanned. However, if 1 person has 10 tickets he'll get 10 bobbleheads and that's the problem. Some people buy multiple tickets (may be the cheapest kind) to get multiple bobbleheads for resale, so strictly speaking it's not the first 40k persons that arrive get one, it's the first 40k ticket holders, that's why fans fear of missing out
@mvbreaks8614

I get the idea of making enough bobbleheads for everybody, but the giveaway is there for marketing with the goal to accomplish two things... 1. Get more fans to the game 2. on the subject of Shohei, i saw him in a new balance advert on the TV in the UK just recently. He was in there with stars from soccer and golf and others who would be on the scale of "global superstars". I am pretty certain it is one of the first times i have seen a baseball player on any kind of advertising in the UK, so from our perspective, Shohei is the biggest baseball star there has ever been and the only person a non-baseball fan in the UK would be able to name other than maybe Shohei would be Babe Ruth. So i think from the international perspective even the Maguire Sosa home run race wasnt really known about internationally (in non-baseball markets like the UK) but Shohei is making a mark like a baseball player never has which is incredible! Really cool to see you guys also see him as such a big star that only the Maguire Sosa thing has ever been bigger!

A large part of that is that MLBs stars who came after Derek Jeter and AROD never got themselves in the spotlight. Trout and Harper were supposed to be the next big stars and they played well but could never make it the playoffs consistently or even to a World Series. Jeter was always in the playoffs, he was in multiple World Series. Now look at other sports, Brady and Mahomes are the biggest names, consistently in the Super Bowl / playoffs. Kobe/Lebron/ Curry, again always in the playoffs / finals. Even Judge has yet to make a World Series. I think that plays a huge role in how famous an athlete becomes.
