I so enjoy watching you work. Your little tricks to keep items aligned and the use of epoxy for locating the third bushing was a stroke of genius. Thank you for letting us watch over your shoulder... Fred

this is why i didnt build that traction engine... the egine tends to be hard to keep up with over the ground. looks like you solved the problem nicely! thanks for sharing!

Hey there, First I've gotta say that I love your channel and your work. This is amazing and fascinating. Now i've got a question: Wouldn't it be better if once you've placed the pinion and the gear on the same shaft to drill a keyway through both of them and secure them both with a single key pin like you did to the gear?
@myfordboy
8 жыл бұрын
Good question. The pinion does not really have enough metal between the teeth to pin it. The pinion on the crankshaft is Loctited to a bush which has the holes drilled for a pin. Loctite is quite adequate for this aplication
@skvetny
8 жыл бұрын
myfordboy I see. Well I guess it's enough for the low torque in this gear set. How did you decide what is the proper gear and pinion design (addendum, dedendum, pitch diameter, tooth width etc...)? Have you calculated the numbers by knowing the power input and RPM required or did you just do some reverse engineering from an existing steam engine?
@myfordboy
8 жыл бұрын
It was a matter of getting the biggest reduction i could in the space available. Starting with the smallest pinion that would fit the crankshaft and trying different DP and teeth numbers.

+time for some fpv action That's a lot of bother. Ask a golfer in your neighbourhood if he has an old driver you can have. Purpose built cannon! We golfers all have drivers that have broken our hearts but cost to much to throw into a water hazard! They just lurk in our garages mocking us.

+dhyanais Maybe I should mask the noise with some heavy rock music like most videos seem to have. Do you really want this? Why do people find something to complain about in things I do?
@dhyanais
8 жыл бұрын
+myfordboy Hey, I do not complain, I just stated that your camera is loud and didnt understand it. Maybe it is the build in microphone. I thought this comment section is made for people to discuss and analyse things they dont understand.

+dhyanais Sounded like a complaint to me. Yes the built in mic picks up the sound and is noticeable in quiet shots.

+myfordboy I can see that interpretation. Communication via text is prone to distortion. The sender is unclear of his intentions and the recipients picks up on which ever mood he is in to pick up. Didnt want to bother you, really. I really enjoy your videos.

+dhyanais I think I understand it now a little bit better. My computer seems to amplify the quieter passages quite a bit, so that the autofocus is very loud.
