I think a way that might make sense to a non-American is to think of the US as 50+ different countries that shares a federal government. The US is so huge and varies so drastically from area to area that if we tried to govern everything solely through the federal government, it would blow up in a major way. Think of it a bit like the EU. If suddenly every single law was written and enforced by the EU (speed limits, drinking ages, what kind of paperwork car deals need to file, divorce procedures, etc. etc. it would be a nightmare and every country would want their way of doing things to be the way the whole EU did them. This is why we have state laws and governments. It’s messy, inefficient and can have devastating consequences but it prevents outright civil war and states breaking up the country to do their own thing. Hopes this helps.

It actually took me three friggin days to finally finish this whole video though. 😮Idk it's kinda funny to me because James always makes me feel smarter and stupider pretty much at the same time. I feel smart when I comprehend what all it is that he's saying, but sometimes it takes me a bit to get to that point where it fully clicks, which ofc makes me feel stupid... I finally got smart and started using the transcript, so I could read along with what 'Our King' was saying, which thankfully greatly improved my comprehension, as well as allowed me to go back a few sentences or more, concisely without going too far like I usually do if I rewind 10 seconds at a time... I'm really glad James is so good at making things make sense though, at least I can understand the information he's putting out, which is a lot more than I can say for pretty much any other political commentators or whatever they're called though! 😅

I just find the fact that the plan was to tell the holts daughter about josh on the wedding night fascinating. It makes me wonder what did josh tell Anna on the wedding night. I think that night must have been very traumatic for her. To have a creep be able to have his way when you’re raised sheltered from sex and you marry a man who’s obsessed with it. No wonder she’s so dissociative.
@coleslawYSJ
Жыл бұрын
right?!! Anna is very much a victim of the belief system she was indoctrinated into. I truly hope that after Shiny Happy People and Jill and Jinger's books, the public gets a deeper understanding into how damaging IBLP is, how difficult it is to untangle oneself from that belief system, and give Anna some credit. She is not a well, or informed woman. Learning more about what she grew up in, should allow others to extend her some much needed grace, or at the very least, objectively ask what opportunities has she had, to learn, grow, and be better, and how she can reasonably be expected to navigate those pathways, on her own.
@missychan63

Does anyone besides me remember the episode where they were on their honeymoon? They were staying in a house or a cabin- probably owned by Jim bob- and it had three or four bedrooms....? Anna made reference to the fact that they had "consummated the marriage" in all of them... and it was only one day after the wedding . I remember being shocked that she had been that open- even though it was a very veiled admission- and I just kind of giggled because they were newlyweds with a new toy. Now that we all know what we know about Josh, it's actually kind of sad and disgusting. I can only imagine what he put her through in those first few months of marriage. I have absolutely no sympathy for the woman at this point though. She may not be the sharpest tool in the shed but she is not mentally challenged- she knows what she's married to, she has children that she should be protecting, and instead she chooses to STAY married. No God I would worship would ever ask that of her.
@LisaKoffler

Bill boyy, they're part of Bill Gothard's IBLP cult instead of a REAL church! It's patriarchal, and that's why girls and women are treated so badly! I read something about Jim Bob and Michelle admitting to the Holts that they wanted to use their daughter, Kaeleigh as "a carrot" to teach Josh proper behavior, and they helped Kaeleigh break up with Josh, and they ended their friendship with the Duggar Family! Afterward, the Kellers "stepped up to the plate," and I read something about Anna not walking properly during their honeymoon, and I didn't even TRY guessing what Josh did to her on their wedding night! Whatever it was, it had to be BEYOND sadistic, since he has a history of being violent in the bedroom! This cult doesn't allow divorce, despite a few of Anna's siblings doing so! Anna WON'T leave, because she loves Josh TOO MUCH more than their 7 kids, and it's absolutely disgusting! My point is, these people answer to Bill Gothard, who is a false prophet, NOT God Himself! IT'S SICK!

i find this stuff so interesting. I was wondering if you would consider making a video on the Joshua Generation mentioned in Shiny Happy People (I think this is what they're called?? They're the political generation Madison Cawthorn is part of). That's something I hadn't head of before, and would be interested in your thoughts! I'm just so happy to see you guys succeeding!! It's so well-deserved

My bf and I have been watching shiny happy people together but we definitely have to take breaks because my boyfriend is deconstructing actively, and he is slowly realizing his upbringing was way further into evangelism and fundamentalism than he thought. He was the son of a pastor so yk that’s a whole can of worms. I’m so glad and proud that y’all could be a part of it! Jen was one of the people who genuinely helped him start his deconstruction so we cannot thank you enough!!

I'm not sure how but I definitely have been sucked into the boilin' pot that is the Duggars and IBLP (the exposing and disposing of) Thankfully, my family did not buy into something this destructive, but I was maybe 10 years old when my mom got involved with Bible study groups and the Evangelical movement. That was the big thing in the '70s "born-again" and all the televangelists. Mom was Catholic and she remained Catholic, often going to mass every morning. I had two older sisters who had married and were out of the house in 1970. I refused to go to mass but through Mom's Bible-reading people, I was invited to go to this church that was called The Christian and Missionary Alliance (basically An Assembly of God) They had a Youth Group, and it was fun. To this day I think the only true Christian person I've ever known was the pastor there. By the time I was 15, I just couldn't put aside my questions and what I knew to be true. The fact was, these people were wearing masks. The hypocrisy was overwhelming! It took me several years, an abusive marriage, and an absolute nervous breakdown, with a month in a psych unit to begin to heal. I can't believe how long it took to silence that voice in my head. I didn't even know that they put it there. I'm now 61 years old and I'm at peace with myself. It is things like IBLP that make me so angry. So many people have been hurt, and it is scary that they are trying to get into the government. We can not allow that

I cannot praise this episode enough. The detail, the structure, the perfect essay nature of this... Ugh, it's all just perfect. James, you did an incredible job on this. I'm most impressed with how organized and easy to follow you were. Honestly even Shiny Happy People wasn't THIS organized and easy to follow lol. You and Jen have gotten beyond amazing at covering these massive topics in an entertaining and informative way.

I was even prouder, when my husband, whom I thought never paid attention to what I watched on KZitem, watched SHP with me. When Jen made her appearance he said, “You watch this woman don’t you? I hear you listening to her KZitem.” You guys reach far,

This is a perfect topic for James. I rarely think much about organization within texts, but I noted out loud to my friend that this was really well organized. Especially for a long video and a story with so many parts, what to include/exclude and how to tell it all can be overwhelming. This is well done. I love all of your videos for various reasons and I can really see the work that went into this one (even more than just "wow, well over an hour")

I already was disgusted by Josh, but when i found out that he actually paid $$$ for that movie Daisy's destruction, I've rarely been more disgusted by a human in my life. Except maybe the man and his gf who actually made the movie. I had seen a true crime show about the man who made it, Peter (?) . I can't remember his last name at the moment. I appreciate you minimizing his actions. The very fact that he is still breathing makes me uncomfortable. He's a sick, sick little narcissistic hypocrite.
