Lood Pretorius came from an illustrious family with a long history tied to the creation of, and service to, the Boer republics. He served in the ZAR Staats Artillery with distinction in many battles during the Boer War until his capture in December 1901. As a result of his accurate shooting, Pretorius earned the nickname of 'Skote Petoors' - which loosely translates to 'Good shooting Pretorius'.
Dave would like to thank MC Heunis in South Africa for his assistance with research and photos of Major Lood Pretorius.
