Ideal for situations in which a pitcher needs a groundball out, the drop ball is an important pitch to add to your softball skillset. The drop ball is versatile in that you can pitch it to either side of the plate by moving your feet two inches to the left or right.
To throw a drop ball, your body should be in a slightly forward posture. You will take one to two inches off of your stride to get up and over your front leg sooner. Before the ball is released, you will imagine that you are dropping it between your legs.
