I am proud to be American. Her flaws, and evils included. I am proud because we ended chattel slavery. We enfranchised women. We aided in the destruction of fascism. We ended segregation. We made men and women equal under the law. We gave the queers the rights to marry, and be themselves. There may yet be a thousand miles more to walk. There may yet be. Yet, for just this moment, let us look back upon the thousand miles we've already walked. It gives me hope. Hope for the workers to grab freedom! Hope that all legal inequities will be destroyed. @@ElyCooper-je5hs Nordic model of Social Democracy---what do you think of that ?
@ElyCooper-je5hs
4 ай бұрын
@@SB-tp2jv Venezuela was very much following the same model of social democracy as the nordic countries.. - A capitalist economy with strong workers' right via unions - A welfare state that patches up all the shortcomings of the capitalist system The problem is.. that the system of exploitation still remains.. 1) there is a requirement of a lot of money to uphold a giant welfare state, this money is made by either unequal exchange with the 3rd world which is a bad thing.. or by a nationalised industry that makes money exclusively for the gov. Buut, in that case, all of the power of industry and the economy, still remains with the capital owners 2) As far as the capitalist economy remains.. the capital owners class also remains, whose interests are still very capitalist (profit seeking, forever "growth" and hyper exploitation) and are therefore, opposing the working class people.. The result of this is that capitalists will do everything in their power to fill their own needs, and that is by corruption, slow re-privatisation of the economy or of course activating the forces of reaction (fascism) So in the end.. a social democracy is a step in the right direction.. but it is not a final destination or a perfect status quo
@SB-tp2jv
4 ай бұрын
@@ElyCooper-je5hs I totally agree with you. Final destination is fully functioning State Socialism with Worker's Democracy, but we need a social market economy first . @@SB-tp2jv We need a social democratic market economy if we are to take the path of reform, not revolution.. And the end goal is a stateless, classless and moneyless communist society, and while I agree that such a communist Utopia is FAR FAR into the future, we simultaneously should not loose sight of our goals.. (also dengist china isn't "socialist" but more "state capitalist" and they still face the same problems of capitalist interests sometimes.. but in China.. the gov. has COMPLETE authority over the markets)

You came into the world armed to the teeth with an arsenal of weapons - the weapons of privilege. Racial privilege. Sexual privilege. Economic privilege. If you want to be a pacifist, it's not just giving up guns and knives and clubs and fists and angry words, it's giving up the weapons of privilege, and going into the world completely disarmed.
