Adam's sound actually isn't that complicated. Its all from his amp (Diezel VH4). The easiest way to replicate Adam's sound without buying the $3,500 amp would have been to just get the Diezel VH4 pedal. It replicates it pretty accurately. The key with the real Diezel VH4 and the pedal are that they are heavy on mids. The Marshall amps he uses, like most Marshalls, is probably just putting the treble back in because he maxes out the mids on the Diezel. A Marshall amp alone would have way too much treble to replicate his sound though. Most musicians don't use Diezels because they're expensive and loud, so it keeps Adam's sound pretty unique. But if you ever hear a Diezel in person, you'll instantly hear Adam's core sound.
@captainnuggie1831
Жыл бұрын
Can confirm this, I have a Diezel Vh4 pedal, and it's both the best distortion pedal I've ever used, and the best way to get Adam's tone on a budget
@bubbabigmin
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you look at his settings on the Marshalls EQ pots - he has the bass all the way off, mid 9'Oclock and the treble cranked all the way. I run my VH4 pedal into my little Marshall tube amp and it sounds very close. I do have one of his signature guitars too which definitely helps 😅
@blackmage567

If you're going for a budget ballpark of his tone and not an exact replica, any Les Paul Custom with an EQ to boost trebles for some parts, does a very decent job.

While I don't know how it sounded in the room, Cici's rig sounded awesome and considering all the various amps that Tool use a moddeling amp like the Catalyst is really the only shout for a working man's budget.

The bass was spot on. I feel like Dave did a good job with the guitar given the constraints, but I probably would have gone with the Epi Les Paul and gotten a better amp, cause there seemed to be a lack of top end cut, the guitar was getting lost in the mix. I know Adam is all about the mids, but there was something missing in the guitar tone (to be fair, the budget constraints are most likely why it’s hard to get it just like Adam, but Dave seemed to prioritize the look of the guitar over getting the tone as close as possible).

I gotta say once again that you should up your budget to at least $1,500 for two reasons: inflation and your results. Mostly, I’m referring to the guitar/amp tones. They almost always sound thin and flat. The playing is always great for both players, the trivia about the bands is informative and the strategies always sound spot on. But the amp sounds are just not cutting it. I’m sorry to be negative. It’s like watching a great monster movie where the monster is poor cgi. It just takes you right out of it. I love the show, just trying to help.

I went ahead and hit 👍 barely 3 minutes in to make sure I don't forget. I usually try to watch more of the video before deciding whether I truly like it, but... Dave, Cici & sound like Tool, who happen to be in my top 2 all-time favorite "modern" bands, what could go wrong? And even if it somehow were to go wrong, I'm confident Dave will pull out one of the most entertaining failures ever. Okay, now up to the point of where they start playing "Pneuma" and I dunno about the guitar tone. Sounds a little heavy on the treble and a hair too fizzy to me, but to be fair ( 🎼to be fair, to be fair, to be faiiiiiiirrrrr 🎶 ), the speakers in my near antique laptop probably aren't exactly reference monitors. I'll have to check this video out on some decent speakers or with headphones. In any case, nice going on the playing and entertainment value you guys put into the video Dave and Cici! ❤ Edit: Holy crap kids! Outstanding job on "Schism"! I'd give the video a couple thousand 👍if I could! Dave and Cici are the bee's knees as far as I'm concerned. Finding more footage of them playing together than just the one video where they played at some recent(ish) festival has just moved way up in priority. Keep up the stellar work, kids! 👏👏👏❤🔥🤟👍👊

Really nice job for both! The bass was as good as it would get for the budget! My only input is that for the guitar the bass on zero was taking it too far. For what I've picked up on the internets is that Adam uses the marshall because of it's distinctive low-mids that compliment well the profile of the diezels, so for the big task of the 1-amp trick maybe turning up the bass a bit would've placed it closer since it did sound thin-ish for my ears...and yes, I used headphones 😊 Cheers to both!

The bass sounded very much on point. The guitar, when you could hear it, was boxy and just "ok" at best. I'm personally just not impressed with the catalyst. I realize that modeling amps are going to be the most prudent way to do these on a budget, and I have no problem with that as I know there are amps that can do it well (Katana), but the Catalyst just doesn't do it for me.

Very nice! Btw- Justin Chancellor splits his signal into two amps. One for the high tones, often with effects. The other is the low tones which he usually plays clean. It makes for that high tones, low tones, and nothing inbetween.

This bass tone isn’t quite right. He doesn’t use that much gain, or distortion (other than in the intro of Jambi) his tone’s quite clean actually, he used a Sansamp bass driver. With that being said though, it’s not horrible. It’s just not quite right. Good effort
