(This video is still being processed. Video quality may improve once processing is complete.) Sound Transit made a breakthrough by inviting the public to the grand opening of the improved southside of the Edmonds Sounder Station and the new Community Transit Terminal Station. The station was of course there for a very long time, but some huge improvements were made. There were music performances, commencement speech from key speakers, free food and information, and the ribbon cutting that opens the area to the general public at the end of the video.
The work that was done on the station will make a smoother transition for those who take the bus, ferries, and trains and switch between service during the weekday commute. Plus, the improvement also includes much better station lighting and better cover areas in inclement weather situation.
As for railfanning wise, the train traffic was typical as usual on the line, which is good at least.
1:28 - First train of the day for the morning to make a station stop is Amtrak Cascades Train #513. F40 NPCU 90252 was leading with F59PHI #467 providing power to the train. Behind me, BNSF Foreman Katrina Hall was providing us protection and waving a red flag behind me, indicating the engineer of workers on the platform and to give some horn action on the platform. There were a lot of passengers that were getting on board the train so the train departed a few minutes out of Edmonds.
4:18 - While the commencement speech was going, there was a train that decided to crash in the party and be a party pooper and that would be a Westbound Loaded BNSF Garbage Train. That's right, it was loaded, so it stinked up the ceremony a bit with the filthy smell of garbage. It did halt the speech for a bit since it was blasting the horn through the town. King County Sheriff and Sound Transit Police Officer B.L. Conner gave the train a visual inspection and rollby as it was passing through.
5:37 - A Westbound BNSF Z Train with all typical H2 Dash 9s rolls through the town. It was slowing down a bit due to the switch crossover at MP 16.
The last video is the ribbon cutting of the ceremony; concluding the ceremony and opening the area to the general public. Enjoy the video.
