Sour cream is made by fermenting heavy cream with lactic acid, but it can also be purchased at a large mart. However, I tried making it at home using leftover heavy cream! Sour cream is made by fermenting heavy cream with lactic acid (lactic acid is produced by breaking down lactose in milk (whey, casein protein, lactose), and yogurt is made by further breaking down casein protein by lactic acid). As indicated by the term 'fermentation using' (composed of water, whey protein, casein protein), the ingredients are heavy cream and yogurt! Cream is the main ingredient, and instead of cream, milk can also be used, but I used cream as per the traditional method 😊 Cream is extracted from milk fat, and it has a richer flavor than milk, right? Because there is a big difference in taste, I used cream, but if you don't have cream, I recommend making sour cream with milk instead. The ratio is about 2-3 (if using milk, use less cream, about 1.5): 1 cream (milk) to yogurt 🧡 I used 100g of cream with 50g of yogurt and 10g of lemon juice!
*If you want to substitute sour cream when baking, I recommend Greek yogurt, but... sour cream has its own meaning when it's sour cream :).
