For my Air Force folks, I’d replace the 3 mile run with a 1.5 mile. I would work up to a 2-3 mile run onto the Tuesday workout over the course of 8 weeks. Start out 8 weeks prior to your official PT date, and start with 1.5 miles and increase up to 3 miles. When you hit Week 7, you should be running 2.5 to 3 miles per week on the Tuesday workout and week 8 would be your test week. Include sit-ups and pushups normally like he States here. Good work.

i'm a former Marine so a shout out to Grant for doing this video....but he should NOT have to make the video. The military SHOULD BE incorporating strength work in their pt sessions. If I was a First Sgt/Sgt Major I would issue a order to all my devil dogs to read Starting Strength because starting in 7 days that will be new pt. I've got a home gym now and i'm 45 and following Starting Strength has gotten me stronger than I ever have been, including my active duty time.

Unfortunately, it sounds like all branches and most countries have been slow to improve or replace stuff like Kenneth Cooper's Aerobics, especially with influence from conflicts like Vietnam

Outstanding. Old school PFT prep, especially for those in their third or fourth year of their enlistment, consisted of eating pizza and drinking beer the night before. The following morning then included a little vomiting during the run. Not celebrating that, just sharing.

Then the guys that would immediately light up a cigarette after the 3 mile run, like their life depended on it.

Where do you add push-up improvement? Or will the bench press take care of that?
@InvisibleHotdog

Bench and overhead press are strength training. Push ups in this case are practice for the sport

@@InvisibleHotdog No kidding. So, like I asked, where do you add push-up improvement?

@@shanewalsh9117 the same way you add running and sit ups, test and train them enough times before taking the test

What exercises does military physical fitness test include?

The Marine Corps has two tests they run but not at the same time. They are the PFT which is pull ups, 20 is the goal, crunches for a 2 minutes with 100 being the goal and a 3 mile run with 18 minutes being the goal. Those goals will give you a perfect score. The second test is called the CFT or combat fitness test and it is more complicated and run on a different day , it is a timed event and it consists of a 10-yard sprint,15-yard crawl (low then high crawl)hauling a simulated casualty using two different carries: drag and fireman's carry over 75 yards zigzagging through cones, a sprint while carrying two 30-pound ammo cans over 75 yards through the same cones and throwing a dummy hand grenade into a marked circle 22.5 yards away (adding 5 seconds to total time if missed).5 pushups and a sprint with the ammo cans to the finish line.

Doesn’t seem like enough running to greatly increase your 3 mile time.
