I have a growing admiration for the man over many years. It was so nice to hear someone say something nice about America, especially from Britain.

It's funny he should say audiobooks are great for walks. I've listened to audiobooks read by him while on recreational walks. It makes walking so much better to listen to an audiobook while you do it.

@sinbysin666 what are u talkin bout mate? lots of ppl talk like jonathan ross cos he has a london accent and there are 10 million ppl in london so that answers itself, and btw britain is 3 countries all of which have different accents in themselves, there aint no such thing as a british accent, as for stephen fry hes very posh and sophisticated so not many ppl talk like him...

Ironic that Stephen Fry talks about how good it is listening to audiobooks when you're out walking considering that so many of the best ones (and my ones) are his! Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter, his own books, Hitchhiker's Guide, Jeeves and Wooster....If I'm looking for an audiobook of something in particular I always check if he's done one! 😀

@chickenruler However, that fact in itself, is what makes America's "myth" stronger and therefore the myth absorbs everything. Quite genious.
@yngguy4u
13 жыл бұрын
@chickenruler I've never heard "watch your own side of the fence" I've heard "the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence" but that would not fit your argument. And thank your for atleast being mature and admitting that Americans are generally right intentioned and kind. But there are always reasons why America is what she is and the "myth", or story, of America make her the most intriguing and this is the reason the world is so fascinated in finding the flaws in America.

@chickenruler In finding the flaws they feel they can finally rationalize what America actually is. But its the inability for anyone to put their finger on why America is the biggest success story in the history of nations, especially when looking at the stereotypes of them, that makes them want to dislike us. And if you want to dislike us for any reason, you can absolutely find an example of it here.

"British superiority... in fact inferiority complex that we need to attack Americans" What a silly thing to say. He must realise that this stereotyped view of the general American population, however wide of the mark it may be, is held by the majority of nationalities worldwide. It certainly isn't unique to Britain.
