Welcome to my another series from Uttarakhand. In this series, I have explored Mukteshwar and places to visit near it. Uttarakhand has been known as 'Devbhoomi' and the countless temples here definitely compliment the tag this state in India has got. Every temple that I am visiting in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, have very interesting history and story.
I started my journey to Mukteshwar from Nainital and all the places that I have covered in this vlogs fall between the two popular tourist places in Uttarakhand.
1. Ghorakhal Temple - Ghorakhal is otherwise a very small place. It is famous for two things: Golu Devta Temple & Ghorakhal School. Perched at an altitude of 2000 meters above the sea level, Ghorakhal temple is visited by not only locals but people from all over the world. It is 15 kms from Nainital and you can easily get a bus or taxi to reach this temple. A unique sort of ritual is performed at this temple which remains very crowded during Navratri. In this ritual, devotees make petitions at the temple by writing letters to the Lord Golu, to seek desired decree in litigations. On accomplishment of their wish, the Lord is shown gratitude by hanging brass bells. You will find more than 1 crore brass bells hanging all around the temple. Golu Devta is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva and ‘The God of Justice’.
2. Kainchi Dham - This Ashram is just an ideal stop for peace-seekers and meditators. Located nestled in the Kumaon hills, it was established by the famous Saint Neem Karoli baba in 1962. Kainchi Dham Ashram is located 17 kms from Nainital and you can easily reach here by taking a taxi from Nainital or Almora. Every year thousands of devotees visit this ashram but the crowd grows immensely on .15th June every year. This day is celebrated as the foundation day of the Ashram and thus a Bhandara is held on this day which feeds more than a lakh people every year on this day. This temple is visited by foreigners too. You would be surprised to know that 'Steve Jobs' and 'Mark Zukerberg', they both have visited this temple before the foundation of 'Apple' & 'Facebook' respectively. They came here to seek blessings of Saint Neem Karoli Baba and also to meditate with an aim to connect deeper with their ideas of bringing their dream 'Apple' & 'Facebook' into existence.
3. Shyamkhet Tea Garden, Bhowali - If you are a tea lover, then this place has to be in your list if you are looking for places to visit in Nainital. Lying on the vicinity to Golu Devta temple in Ghorakhal, this Tea Garden produces 11,000 kgs of tea everyday which is exported worldwide as 'Uttarakhand Organic tea'
