The Forestry and Value Chains Development (FORVAC) is a 4-year Programme (7/2018 - 7/2022) funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland (MFA Finland). The implementing agency of the Programme is the Forestry and Beekeeping Division (FBD) of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (MNRT), in close cooperation with Tanzania Forest Service (TFS) and the President's Office Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG).
The Programme aims to contribute in increasing economic, social, and environmental benefits from forests and woodlands. The expected outcome of the Programme is “improved forest sector market/value chains contributing to sustainable forestry and forest-based livelihoods”.
FORVAC focuses on forest value chain development based on production of timber, charcoal, and Non-Wood Forest Products/Non-Timber Forest Products in the Programme Districts and areas allocated there to local communities (Village Land Forest Reserves).
The Programme also supports the development of forest law enforcement, as it is relevant to the development of Community Based Forest Management (CBFM), and improvements of conditions for the trade of legally sourced timber, charcoal, and other forest products originating from the project area. Legal and policy frameworks are improved and harmonized to guide and improve sustainable forest management and trade procedures.
