We were delighted to host this insightful CPD-approved webinar covering all topics surrounding the sustainable control of liver fluke in cattle and sheep. This session featured experts Dr Philip Skuce, Principal Scientist in Parasitology at Moredun Research Institute, and Stephanie Clune, our Junior Researcher and Parasitologist at Micron Agritech.
As part of the Disease Control Department at Moredun, Philip leads the liver fluke research programme. He is also the Moredun Livestock Policy Lead and SEFARI Knowledge Exchange Sector Lead for Livestock. Philip has worked at Moredun for over 25 years on various aspects of sustainable control of helminth parasites (worms & fluke) in livestock. His research interests are in parasite diagnostics, detection in the environment, vaccination studies and the detection and management of anthelmintic resistance. Philip also has interests in conservation grazing, the impact of climate change on helminth parasite epidemiology and the impact of endemic disease on the carbon footprint of livestock production. He sits on the Sustainable Control of Parasites in Sheep (SCOPS) Steering Group, with specific responsibility for liver fluke and anthelmintics and the environment working groups. Current Research Philip’s current research interests focus on diagnosis of fluke in the live animal and detection of fluke stages in the environment. He also has research interests in determining fluke risk associated with conservation grazing and agri-environment schemes as well as wider environmental aspects of practical and sustainable liver fluke control.
