Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but what about the other side. Don’t tell me he has to start from scratch again. Or is there some fancy 3D scanning that happens for the opposite side trims?

Chemical release agent FTW. Gorgeous molds, are you going to use infusion to make the final parts?
@TofuAutoWorks
Жыл бұрын
Dude, the new mold release is next level, love this stuff. I wont be using infusion on mine, but you see I've designed the flanges to allow for infusion (potentially carbon fiber) for when I send a duplicate set of plugs over to the US to have this kit produced there as well. PS, sorry for adding the bolt hole recesses, I know you didn't want me to 😅
@kenecchi
Жыл бұрын
You've already done the hard part of making good solid molds with nice flanges on them so I'd recommend giving it a shot eventually, at least to experiment. The difference in weight and strength, even with fiberglass, is night and day, plus you'll be able to more consistently estimate the amount of materials each part is going to consume. Anyway it looks so clean thus far that I think I can just about forgive the bolt recesses 😆
@reallyanti
Жыл бұрын
@@TofuAutoWorks infusion is 1000 percent worth it man. It's so much nicer.
@TofuAutoWorks
Жыл бұрын
@@kenecchi @reallyanti The thing with epoxy infusion is typically you want to use a different gelcoat designed for epoxies. This vinyl ester tooling gelcoat that I do all my molds in works mint for polyester layups, but I hear even with really good release agents, apparently you can sometimes get sticking when you try and do epoxy layups. Either way, at least for the immediate future it looks like vacuum infusion is a little outside the scope and my budget given the nature of my work and my goals with these parts that I sell. I'm not like these other KZitemrs who have sponsors on every video and can go buy a new supercar every weekend. 😂
@kenecchi
Жыл бұрын
I almost exclusively make epoxy parts on what I believe is the same red-brown VE tooling gelcoat you're using; epoxy isn't a solvent-based material and would only want to bond mechanically with a keyed surface. Molds as shiny as yours would have no chance of sticking, and with chemical release agent would probably pre-release as you're taking the bagging materials off. Because of the resin I use, I also heat parts in-mold to around 80*C and the gelcoat doesn't break down at all. You'd only need to go to a novolac gelcoat at prepreg curing temperatures. Understand your feeling though, it's a deep rabbit hole and a little bit of an investment, but with the way your channel and all is growing, it'll make sense to get into pretty soon.@@TofuAutoWorks
