Last night was an evening unlike any other. The owlets were behaving normally, exercising their wings and such for the day they would fly. Mom Mathilda wakes from her nap to check on where Dad Ricky is perched.
Then out of nowhere, the oldest owlet Clementine, branches out. Not so much like flying but rather a parachute landing through the trees - not seen on camera, but heard. (Did you hear it?) Mom Mathilda alternates between looking down to Clem and watching out for threats to her brood. Clem on the other hand looks momentarily confused by their new surroundings.
Within less than a minute of branching, the sound of Clem's first "flight" attracts the attention of some hawks. The parents as well as the owlets still in the nest are very alert when noticing the hawks nearby. Mom and dad owls take up defensive postures and stare down the threat until it passes.
Petunia and Tuesday, still up in the nest for now, go right back to practicing for their day to "fly". And now Clem can start learning to be an owl outside of the nest.

Thanks for watching! I'll be trying to bring everyone more owl posts but also other animal and nature videos as I get the non-owl content more organized. If there's something you'd like to see or questions about my videos please let me know in the comments. Happy Naturing! 🌿🌳🦉
