This year for Super Bowl LVII we decided to cook food symbolic of the cities of the participating teams. We made dry rubbed ribs and pork belly burnt ends in tribute to Kansas City's bbq tradition and Salmon in tribute to San Francisco's seafood roots.
Here are some of San Francisco's Traditional Foods
Sourdough Bread: San Francisco sourdough bread is famous for its tangy flavor and chewy texture. The city's unique microclimate contributes to the distinct taste of the sourdough culture used in baking.
Mission Burritos: The Mission District in San Francisco is renowned for its oversized, foil-wrapped burritos stuffed with rice, beans, meat, salsa, and other fillings.
Dungeness Crab: San Francisco Bay is famous for its Dungeness crab, which is often served steamed, cracked, and accompanied by melted butter or in dishes like crab cakes and cioppino, a seafood stew.
Cioppino: Speaking of which, cioppino is a signature San Francisco dish, a hearty seafood stew made with a variety of fresh fish, shellfish, tomatoes, and herbs, often served with sourdough bread.
Chocolate: San Francisco has a thriving artisanal chocolate scene, with numerous chocolatiers offering high-quality, locally made chocolates.
Dim Sum: San Francisco's Chinatown offers some of the best dim sum outside of Asia, with a wide variety of dumplings, buns, and other small dishes served in bustling dim sum restaurants.
Kansas City if a BBQ forward city. Here are a list of things to eat when in Kansas City:
Kansas City-style barbecue: This style of barbecue typically features slow-cooked meats, such as beef brisket, pork ribs, pulled pork, and burnt ends (the flavorful, crusty ends of smoked brisket or pork). It's often characterized by its thick, sweet, and tangy tomato-based sauce.
Kansas City Strip Steak: Also known simply as the "Kansas City steak," it's a cut of beef similar to the New York Strip steak but with a bone attached. It's known for its tenderness and flavor.
Burnt Ends: As mentioned earlier, burnt ends are a delicacy in Kansas City barbecue. They're typically made from the fatty point of a smoked beef brisket, cubed, then smoked again to get a crispy exterior and tender interior.
Barbecue Beans: A popular side dish in Kansas City barbecue joints, barbecue beans are typically made with beans cooked in a sweet and savory sauce, often including ingredients like molasses, brown sugar, and barbecue sauce, and sometimes featuring chunks of smoked meat.
KC-style Sauce: Kansas City-style barbecue sauce is known for its thick, rich texture and sweet, tangy flavor profile. It's commonly used as a finishing sauce or for dipping barbecue meats.
Arthur Bryant's BBQ: Arthur Bryant's is one of the most famous barbecue joints in Kansas City, known for its legendary ribs, burnt ends, and tangy sauce.
Gates BBQ: Another iconic barbecue spot in Kansas City, Gates is renowned for its classic Kansas City-style barbecue dishes and its signature "Hi, May I Help You?" greeting from staff.
