Since Obsidian was bought by Microsoft it lost it's independence. Tyranny IP was done for Paradox publisher. So obsidian will not do a sequel, Microsoft will not allow it, Obsidian working for a competitor. Only way I see this happening is Microsoft buying the Tyranny IP of Paradox buying Obsidian studios. It's Sad but the only IP Obsidian owns is Pillars of Eternity and maybe Avowed (same universe), outer worlds is co-owned with Microsoft and all the other franchises belong to other publishers. Infinity Engine games (BG, IwD, P:T) are in the hands of Atari Fallout is in the hands of Bethesda and Microsoft, Arcanum went from Sierra to Activision Temple of Elemental Evil is in the hands of Atari Vampire is in the hands of Paradox Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic was in LucasArts, but Disney shut it down Neverwinter Nights is in the hands of Atari, as other Forgotten Realms titles Alpha Protocol is in the hands of SEGA Pathfinder is in the hands of Paizo Dungeon Siege is in the hands of Square Enix South Park is in the hands of Ubisoft, Tyranny is in the hands of Paradox. So Obsidian can only realistically work on Fallout, as Microsoft now owns Bethesda too, Pillars of Eternity/Avowed, Outer Worlds and possibly Arcanum if Microsoft buys Activision. Or a brand new franchise IP.

The whole "just abdicate" actually does fit.......if you choose to fight for the Tiers and not for Kyros, since there's usually a way to circumvent Kyros' Edicts that doesn't require huge bloodshed. One of the most interesting things about the rebel path is that it exists, and the game will remind you of this in the epilogue. The loopholes were in the Edicts the whole time. Kyros left the door open... did she want you to step through the entire time? And if so, just how far is he ahead of you in this game?
@Melodeath00

Is it possible to stay loyal to Kyros through the entire game? I remember wanting to, but in the final act, my character betrayed Kyros and convinced Tunon to join me, despite me actively trying to choose dialogue options to stay loyal to Kyros... I only did one playthough, and it was right after the game was released, so I don't remember exactly what happened, but I'm pretty sure I did not become a good guy who "fought for the freedom of the Tiers" either. It was more like becoming an independent godking tyrant ruling over the Tiers with an iron fist, to oppose Kyros. Tbh, this kind of "unwanted" outcome has happened in a lot of my RGP playthoughs where you aren't explicitly told what the outcome of each dialogue option is. Still remember killing Wrex in Mass Effect 1 despite trying my best to pick the dialogue to save him.

Indeed. And in this case, the different paths are REALLY different and lead to very different experiences and outcomes. Choices that actually matter and deeply affect not only your own character, but the entire world around you. I also very much prefer such short but sweet stories in limited scope but narratively deep and dense settings. Nothing worse than an overly long epic storyline with half just being filler and busy work to slog through.

I can say one thing for the inventory: It's very useful to just sell everything you don't immediately need to the first merchant you come across. Firstly, it frees up space, and secondly, it'll give you valuable coin to spend if you find merchants with actually useful gear or items, or to spend on skill trainers or forging at the spires. Not counting the inventory quest tab from which you cannot sell, the characters' active inventory slots which can be actively used in combat, and artifacts which you also can't sell, I typically go around with only a dozen or so items. Important ones are the reviving shrooms and potions, and the consumables that give you more wit or resolve, because of the subsequent effect of increasing lore to be able to prepare more powerful and complex spells (hero potion [+2 all attributes], skycap mushrooms [+10 lore, +4 wits], and sableroot [+4 resolve]). Aside from that, its just brass and hide for upgrading light armor at the forge, sometimes a second set of armor for very specific enemies, and the Silent Archive and Fragment of Cairn's Brilliance (only if you complete their requisite quests of course) for the same purpose as consumables; increasing lore, and again, depending on the playthrough, maybe health potions and vagrant's chaw for extra healing or invisibility potions for, well, becoming invisible. Also I guess temporary extra armor/weapons in Act 1 & early Act 2 for whenever I encounter a new party member I wanna add to my party (almost always a full caster party of Sirin, Eb, and Lantry).

Don’t get me wrong, some of it is fantastic, like the dialogue with Kreia and Scion, but it also felt like it was falling apart by the end. Also, the environments seem generally more empty, like less time was able to be dedicated to filling out environments and the texture work can be extremely plain. Nar shadaa comes to mind since it almost reminded me of a mod in visual appearances. There are also a ton of bugs that can break side quests, and it crashed on me a helluva lot more than kotor 1 did. The issue kinda was that they made the game so large when they knew they had an extremely short timeline, so when the shipping date approached, this fantastic game they built had to have fairly important things cut or never made to begin with in order to ship a functioning game. For all the bugs Fallout New Vegas has, it feels substantially more complete than KOTOR 2 imo.

@Ocean5ix
Жыл бұрын
Real time with pause is definitely an acquired taste if you come from a turn based background. I myself started with Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous and Wasteland 3 and decided to build a backlog of CRPGs to play. So far I've played Fallout 1 and 2, Tyranny, Baldur's Gate 1 and I'm currently playing Baldur's Gate 2. The thing with real time with pause is that you're supposed to micromanage and keep pausing the game all the time so you end up splitting the entire fight into micro-turns. I also come from a competitive Starcraft 2 background so I absolutely loved how in Baldur's Gate there's no attack of opportunity when disengaging, which means I can freely micro a character that is taking hits out of the fight and bring him back without the aggro. The biggest advantage real time has compared to turn based is that actions happen at the same time. This is huge in games that were designed as real time first and had turn based added later like Pillars of Eternity 2 and the Pathfinder games. Being able to cast spells with your mages at the same time is a huge difference maker. By playing these games on turn based (unless they were designed as turn based games first) is making things slightly (some times a lot) harder for yourself. Last but not least, if you haven't played Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous yet, I 200% recommend it. Never have I played a game that answered the question "which game would you bring to a deserted island to play forever?" so vehemently. The build variety + mythic paths gives the game an insane amount of possibilities. I played just 1 game with 1 build and it took me 200 hours to beat. And the game also has a DLC that is pretty much a rogue-lite version of the game but without the story, just combat and build crafting. It became my second favorite game of all time just behind Bloodborne.

I m happy with real time pause games. NWN BG1/2 Pathfinder, they all work great and most importantly gives you the sense that you can't control everything and you have to rely on the AI as u would rely on your team members. Meanwhile, turn-based you direct everyone like it would be you, not like a comander that's not omniscient and can't follow everyone in battle, giving orders to make sure there's a common strategy but not telling every individual party member what to do( from a role playing point of view)

Part of the reason Tyranny's reputation system works so well is that it too ties into the game's "power of belief" theme. For example, as your Wrath with a faction increases your character becomes a bogeyman for its soldiers, with the sheer terror your presence inspires giving you very real combat advantages against them because they believe you're unstoppable. Tyranny was something of a diamond in the rough, with a lot of experimental ideas. Some were great, others not so much, and it's a shame it didn't get the budget and development time to fully explore them or finish its tale.

Also regarding the combat, the thing with real-time RPG combat systems is not the fight itself. It is the preparation. Choice of battlefield, buffs, sneaking, thinking of formation of your party. For example, when you fight in a hallway with some empty rooms. Lure your targets to you, block entrance with your frontliner and hurl spells, spears and stuff at the enemies. Another thing, as in DnD or any other similar game, damage output of a full health enemy is the same as of the one on brink of death, so reducing difficulty of fights is simply focusing on non-tanky enemies. Last thing I wanted to emphasize are control spells. Stuns, slows, miss chance and other stuff are way better than raw damage, especially in your first playthrough. My party often consists of a tank, mostly Barik for his ability to bind more enemies into engagement, a skirmisher, pretty much a filler role for any character I wish to use but has no real reason to be included, and two mages, each with healing and a set of spells for control, like the pitfall, rimespike or fireball with bouncing properties. Later in the game, when you reach approximately 400+ Lore, getting almost full power fire, lightning and earth rain spells is what ends any fight on max difficulty in seconds, especially if I run a third mage.

One of the few games where the story was so great it made me obsess about it, even though the gameplay was so-so most of the time. It did dark fantasy right, without feeling pointlessly edgy, but just consistently bleak. "What would a fantasy world be like AFTER the evil overlord already won" is such a great concept, but so hard to make interesting, yet Obsidian blew it out of the water. The companions that joined you were incredibly written, too. All these years later and I'm still upset I never got to free Sirin from that headdress that Nerat has put her in; at least I've managed to build a somewhat friendly relationship between her and my Fatebinder, at least by this game's standards. Your video really made me want to replay it all.

My favorite moment in Tyranny was saving the baby and ending the edict at the same time. It's such a good moment, especialy if you're on the rebel path, the only problem I have with it, is that you cannot convince Graven Ashe to betray Kyros, there's no option to bring up his grandson and convince him. I was really hoping I could return the Disfavored into their former selves, sigil and all.

I do wish though that saving the baby didn't come across as so - easy? Having your cake and eating it too, in a sense. It would have felt more organic to me if there was a Subterfuge option to convince Amelia to proclaim that the baby wasn't in fact the Regent's. Similarly tied to the theme of belief creating reality, but less of a "happy ending" since she's have to sacrifice her integrity and memory of her love for it.

Very similar themes to Planescape: Torment, where one of the fundamental ideas is that belief is one of the most powerful forces - in that one, that's where the gods' power comes from & it can effect the things around you, whether it's convincing a person that they don't exist & making them vanish from existence to using a pseudonym so much people believe that "Adahn" is a real person, who then manifests & you can talk to. In Tyranny, Kyros is powerful in large part because people believe Kyros has power & then that power is used to reinforce it further - anything you do to undermine that weakens Kyros, it's also a big part of the rules for how their name can be used, as that would mean it's essentially diluting it.

My most memorable experience was when I had an opportunity to talk to a retired Fatebinder, who possessed a lot of information on Kyros. Including HER real person. It pretty much flipped everything I knew about the overlord on its head. After that, when I was talking with my party and mentioned Kyros as "she", the archon of song chimed in that it's impossible, Kyros is a he, and she knows it, because she almost put a spell on him, to which you can respond "I know what I said". It paints a great picture of Kyros being able to manipulate people to the point they themselves don't know what to think about her. It also gave me huge Black Company vibes with the whole sorceress overlord character.

I just wish they world port it to Nintendo Switch, but that seems pretty unlikely. I like CRPGs but with things like Divinity Orignal Sin II, Icewind Dale, and Baldur's Gate having been ported, I've developed a preference for playing that style of game on my Switch. I keep hoping some of my other favorite CRPGs might get ported, too but I've been hoping for that since Switch was first released so I kind of gave up on it. If I can ever afford something like the Steam deck maybe I'll get to actually play Tyranny, but until then I guess I'm at the mercy of the Video Game Gods and their ability to get gaming companies to play nice and become friends with Nintendo. Being a gamer and a grown up with too many responsibilities and less time for gaming sucks. 😅 At least I can count on your in-depth videos to see at least part of what some of these story-driven games have to offer. I hope you keep making videos about the more obscure but great games with awesome narratives. They're always enjoyable!

my impression playing tyranny if I am remembering correctly was that kyros was a balancing evil (see the manga The Executed Sage Is Reincarnated as a Lich and Starts an All-Out War) where they exist as an evil that must provide a constant threat so that people will not turn on each other (unfortunately I think the divide was too great among the tiers for them to effectively unify properly and kyrosses forces too strong resulting in their loss)

Everyone I here speaking of Tyranny says two things (among others): 1 Magic is super important and super powerful. 2 The philosophy of evil is very interesting and teaches you how to fight it back through subversion. Meanwhile, my only playthrough was a full melee guy carving a golden path for Kyros domination through murder and intimidation. Tunon was essentially like : "oh yeah, now that I think about it you really did everything in the best interest of Kyros. I wonder why I summoned you to be judged in the first place." It's to the point that I sometimes felt unsured wherever me being such a faithfyl doggy-dog was intended in the first place.

I didn't feel like the baby thing took away from the message/story. I saw killing the baby as the easy, straightforward, unga bunga solution. The whole abdicating the throne thing made it clear what Kairos' intentions were, that there was such an obvious solution the whole time and the dude didn't even consider it because of him being so in love with his power (he could have abdicated the throne too, and no one would have had to die). And he also had the baby knowing the kind of fate he'd be dooming that baby to. It also shows that Kairos isn't some chaotic evil cartoon villain. The fact she allowed for these loopholes, but people keep choosing the path with the most violence. It must, in her eyes, reinforce the idea that what she's doing is right, because she makes a simple edict, and look at how the people cause so much strife and chaos in their attempt to end the edict, if they even consider the possibility of it being a thing that could be ended.

I remember my first and only playthrough of this game. Apparently, less than 5% of people did it the way I did. My path was basically that of the anarchist psychopath who betrayed everyone: No allies, no masters, no gods. The Chaotic Victory. In essence, I freed all the people, but I also destroyed every vestige of fragile order that the world depended on. And I was fine with that. I didn't really need anything beyond that. I showed all of them that in the end, everyone was truly unworthy to rule, if they wouldn't be able to stop me.

I loved this game. I loved being able to play as an evil character that was not just a parody. Reigning by fear, beating up your opponents for opposing you, or by respect, by being a man of your word (which does not negate the first point), it's rare a game gives you such a wide berth. My first playthrough was all about being as devoted to Kairos as possible, and making her words truth, and it took a lot killing heretics on every side, but it somehow it all worked out as they were all traitors. Oh wait... that's really evil... and that's what awesome about this game.

I recently finished the game with all 4 routes (the disfavored, scarlet chorus, rebel, and anarchist routes) and every route kinda makes you question everything about what you're told in face value [Major spoilers btw] I've never seen any of the dev interviews about the game but I don't think the name Kyros is a name they randomly chose. It's very similar to Chi Rho, which is where we get the word Christ. Kyros's laws are very interesting. When you talk with Tunon about them, they're surprisingly lenient. It reminds me of the historical Pax Mongolica. The Mongols were brutal with their conquests, but Mongol law gave things like freedom of trade and religion, as well as safety. Similarly, while Kyros is very brutal with her enemies, her laws actively make sure that everyone is fed, nobody obtains monopolies, everyone has a job, and various other things. More than that, Kyros provides unity. Pre-conquest tiers were rife with political, economic and social divisions. Misandry and Misogyny in the various realms, free city merchants trying to profiteer off of the conquest's suffering, the unbroken refusing to help anyone who wasn't from stalwart, etc. Kyros allows a lot of evil forces to act in her name, but the tiers was not a place of sunshine and rainbows. The implementation of the law is what the game asks a lot about. Kyros makes it clear that the law doesn't make everyone equal. Those who don't declare themselves to her are not bound to her laws and therefore are not under her protection, which means anyone can do anything to them no questions asked. Her protections of her subjects aside, the Archons are granted special privileges and have the right to implement their own laws for their own subordinate factions. Graven Ashe is a very clear racist who only cares about a specific set of northerners and sets them to a high discipline standard. The Voices of Nerat rules with a very Darwinian mindset of letting the strongest survive, and even Tunon has an almost ironically chaotic form of recruitment. Kyros just says "I'm not protecting them." It's the Archons who decide what to do next. Ashe's response when dealing with the tiers is to kill them off because he doesn't want his precious northerners hurt. His legion boasts about honor and superior breeding, but is extremely hypocritical about it. The Tiersmen are trash unless they're armed with iron. Then they're dishonorable trash because they're....fighting on equal footing? When you save Graven Ashe's daughter at Stalwart and learn about her affair with the heir of Stalwart, she outright tells you that the disfavored had been told for years that the tiersmen are the worst kind of people, and that Ashe's brutal attempts of "civilizing" the tiers are justified because they're savages. Ashe's daughter is horrified with the disfavored actions, because the tiers had mountains of proof to show that the opposite is true, and she had none. Ashe ultimately ignored the fact that "Kyros does not desire to rule over a wasteland" which is the justification you use to convince Barik not to leave when you play any playthrough against the disfavored. You could say that Ashe's racism is why he intentionally doesn't let the tiers submit to Kyros's peace Nerat's horde is hilariously similar to the Sith from Star Wars. The strong should lead and the weak should fester in their hate and guilt until they are ready to replace the strongman. Nerat relies on the complicity of the chorus to ensure that he stays on top, and to do that he has a macabre celebration in every enemy settlement he reaches. Join Nerat, and the protection of Kyros is automatically extended to you. The average tiersmen is not aware of the intricacies of Kyros's law and doesn't realize you can swear fealty to Kyros directly, something Nerat exploits to the fullest. Nerat's horde can only grow through battle, and so the education and advancement of the tiers is the last thing he wants. If the tiers truly surrenders to Kyros, he has no source from which to maintain his constantly depleting chorus. Even Tunon isn't without blame. While Tunon puts on the facade of just adjudication, he has his clear prejudices, which you can see from how he reacts to a lot of your judicial proclamations. When you're in halfgate/plainsgate and are mediating the trial of beastman from the stonestalker tribe, Tunon is unhappy with the fact that you let the beast go even though all evidence shows he's innocent. Tunon likes when you seize the bronze sword that a disfavored and choirman are fighting over because it enriches the court. Accepting bribes while doing official court business doesn't anger Tunon. He doesn't like you leading a witness into claiming she was on her way to join the chorus (therby deserving of Kyros's protection) and lastly Tunon doesn't let you implicate both of the archons when he demands proof of sedition. On this last one I'm not entirely sure why. Personally I think it has less to do with him and more to do with the fact that it'd break the game really badly if you could get Bledan Mark to kill half the final bosses before you met them. Either way, Tunon is not an unbiased Adjudicator, and heavily favors the word of law over the spirit of law. He's only convinced that you didn't break any laws if you go anarchist or rebel because the edict would have killed you otherwise. Kyros's word superceded his judgement and does in multiple occasions. You could make the argument that Kyros isn't the one who's evil, it's her archons. Her laws were designed to bring order, but (pretty intentionally) doesn't account for the laws her vassal archons create. At the very end of the game it's remarked by the voices of Lantry that it's like Kyros WANTS for you to throw an edict at her. One of the fatebinders in Tunon's court also remarks that the laws against going into the old walls feel very intentionally worded, almost like Kyros WANTS you to go into the oldwalls. I forgot the exact thing he said but it was along the lines of "when you tell someone not to do something, it makes them want to do it more." The ending of the game was kind of a bust but when you submit to her, she does keep her word. You as a vassal who didn't commit any wrong, are rewarded with the tiers, and she pulls her forces back. The tiersmen, like it or not, are all regarded as your subjects and are under Kyros's laws by proxy of you. Reasons for potential conflict like differing ethnic, national, social, and economic background now no longer exist. Whatever archons are around now no longer have reasons to maintain armies. Terratus can now be at peace. (Sorry for the word dump. I finished the game and I absolutely loved the world building of this game to the point that I want to try and make a DnD game around the pre-established lore)

I remember a part in the game that does tell the tale of who Kyros is. In the hall of judgement, I remember talking with one of the other fatebinders who told a story about a man who recognized Kyros, who had been a regular, ordinary, mortal woman from the same town. The man's fate? He was killed, along with all of his family and friends. :) Wide games are fun- it somewhat sounds like you didn't come across this bit of lore in the game.

17:40 - I honestly really like the combat tbh. The combos are awesome and the magic system is great, it's slow, yes, but on the highest difficulty it's SO much fun to just take things slow and methodical and solve each encounter like it's a puzzle. Also, there's so many cool broken combos you can do. Weapon imbuements that make waves, lava or ice or whatever do so on hit, and melee fighters often have multi-hit abilities, Verse has one that has like 5 hits which makes 5 waves. So really, magic and melee combat augment one another, it's not one or the other, it's both. You just have to think out of the box and have your characters support each other. The other cool thing is that you can build any character to do almost anything. Tank Lantry is my favorite, just putting him in heavy armor, giving him healing magic and protection stuff and watching him soak damage is super cool.

Tyranny was such a weird experience to me. I only played it because it came in a sale along with Pillars of Eternity, and while I barely touched Pillars, as soon as I gave Tyranny a try it legit grabbed me right away and I did not stop playing until the end, putting around 100h in my first playthrough. I think I did every quest I could, and I literally NEVER play CRPGs from start to end like that, as I often get bored due to how slow and long CRPGs can be, but somehow I just never got tired of Tyranny. And I wouldnt even say its the best CRPG ever, its just that I loved how Tyranny not just let me be as evil as I wanted, but also motivated me to do so. Like when one of the party members tried to leave my party, and I was given the option to physically force them to stay with me, pretty much slaving them, and the best part: it made them hate me, which gave us a special duo attack to use in battle. Yes, you can make your entire party hate you, and if you do you get unique moves you can use. Of course, the opposite can also be done, you get unique attacks for making them like you as well. The way you can customize your spells and skills is also something else that made me like this game so much. I would go as far to say that the combat in Tyranny was way more fun to me than in other CRPGs I played (Original Sin 2 definitely still got the best combat tho). The plot was also very interesting, and yet another unique part of the game. You actually get messages from your superiors, and you are given the choice to how you wanna respond to their orders and stuff, which changes both your character and events in the game. Kyros is also a great "villain". Honestly, if there was ever any CRPG I would wanna replay, Tyranny is definitely the one. To me its one of the few RPGs that properly rewarded me for my choices.

The UI and the sluggish combat are the reason why this game struggled to get recognition. UI is in itself not easy to get right, more so in a RPG setting with more complexity than 4 buttons to fight. as you mentioned, the stroy and the game mechnics arent bad, just deleiverd in a awkward manor. If the would have put in more time/effort in the UI and make stuff more clear (like the mentioned time restrictions), that game could have a real impact in the rpg world.

You've said that lore choice of saving the baby from dying is taking some power of making a hard decision. And _you are wrong._ Exactly because of your previous words. The evil thrives in seemingly hopeless situation, when you see something as the only solution without any solace you can find. And it seems that no one can find it either. Evil thrives when options are limited. But the people thrives _by surpassing that limitations._ The evil is to think that there is no other option. But maybe you just don't see it. Making that decision as a Judge is like a poetry, which exactly lead Fatebinder to convince Tunon. Because justice is blind, not heartless.

So my only real beef with Tyranny (and one which eventually made me drop the game half-way through the campaign) is that, despite being basically Judge Dredd (fantasy edition), the law that you apply is never actually elucidated very well. For instance; in the real world, a country might have a constitutional system, with the constitution forming a sort of all-encompassing guideline for how laws should work, what rights are important to protect, and where the lines between different spheres of power lie. Under this all-encompassing framework, the country might then have a mix of legislation (national and local legislation drafted and published by those in power) and common law (a mix of unwritten laws set by the local people themselves, as well as the legal rules of thumb which have been codified over the years by case law). Tyranny, as a legal system, looks like it should have something like a set of legislation (the lower-case edicts of Kyros) and common law in the form of the judgements of Tunon, with the overall "constitution" of the land being formed according to Kyros' overarching goals and motives. But none of this is elucidated. Instead, you get snatches of legal principles which the character can pull out of thin air, and which the game then judges you for applying. Do I punish a set of thieves by execution (because Kyros is intolerant of all crime), or by sending them to slave in the salt mines (because Kyros believes that all criminals should pay back their debt to the state) or by enrolling them in the Red Chorus (because Kyros believes that all citizens should be useful, and that redemption can be found by bloodily proving oneself of use) or by choosing to simply level a fine (because Kyros doesn't care about petty concerns, and just wants the state to fund itself)? Who knows? You can't know which choice is "correct" or not, and so can't even subvert it. All you can do is make a choice, have your character spout an appropriate legal-sounding justification, and then have the game system arbitrarily decide whether is was the "right" choice according to Tunon. I know that it's a lot to ask an action-oriented RPG to also be an introductory primer into the theory of law, but this really was a game that could and should have attempted to give you something along the lines of a big book of Kyros' law and the collected judgements of Tunon and then allowed you to actually apply legal principles to the cases you keep judging. Otherwise it's just guessing at what the guy in the mask will find offensive or not, which makes you seem more like a bumbling incompetent than the all-mighty law bringer.

The only missing thing is that you can bring a couple of artifacts into new game+ runs, which not only opens up incredible new builds/interactions, it also smooths out the early game a LOT, making it quite enjoyable, to be fair. Great job! Wish you all the success! Now, like I said, I don't know your channel (yet), but did like what I saw! Now completely off-topic: If you enjoy Tactical Turn Based combat.... then I'll bet you'd love a hidden gem called Battle Brothers. It's not a CRPG, doesn't really have a story. Graven Ashe already lost his son to the Voices of Nerat, he has a daughter and a grandson that you can save. He used to fight Kyros and only betrayed her because he wanted to keep his own men safe. Sure the Disfavored are racists assholes and they murder and enslave just as much as the Chorus in many cases, but I really saw an opporunity to show them the error of their ways same as you can do with Tunon. Also, by saving the baby you prove Kyros is indeed fallible, and I think the starting choice also kind of proves that, I think Kyros wanted EVERYONE to die in the valley, the fact that you can revoke the edict is you proving that Kyros' will can be thwarted. That's why the player character is such a big deal as a person who revoked an edict.

I was hooked on Tyranny from the very first note of the music track on the main menu. It's a wonderful title! Thanks for sharing your video.

I am not surprised Obsidian tried out this story concept. After all the whole "become a god" schtick is already there in BGII. You can't slay it since it is already dead, but you slay god or people on the verge of becoming gods in Icewind Dale, 1 and 2. From your video, Tyranny looks like a more mature story (which makes sense since it came out later) but still something in the continuation of this studio's previous games.

The tragedy is the studio revived the genre with Pillars. Then everyone ignored Tyranny, then Pillars 2. Both games deserve sequels. Tyranny is one of the best thought out CRPGs with one of the most intriguing ideas I've ever seen, you can fight the evil ruler by lawyering your way around him or just do their bidding. Thats amazing!

The problem with the conquest mode is that by the time you're done and playing the actual game, you might've forgotten most of what took place in it.

how? okay i cna get forgetting names, but you'd have to have major issues to not be able to remember the gist of what happens over the runtime of a game.

@@comyuse9103 The conquest mode is a short segment at the beginning of the game that covers a lot of places, people, and events. You're bombarded with a large amount of macro and micro level information within a short span of time. It's very easy to forget a lot of that, especially as you will immediately have to absorb a lot of other information when the (actual) game begins. Now, imagine if you take a break from the game after your first session, say, 2 days or more. Good luck remembering much. It may take many hours of in-game time to get to the point where a given conquest mode decision will come up in the game, by which it is very possible you have no idea what is being talked about. The game knows this, and that's why it lets you mouse over keywords, these decisions being marked as such.

I will never not love this game. Even with its a genuine work of art and love. Really hope they bring it back one day and give it the love it deserves, but at this point I doubt it considering it's been radio silence for so long.
