I've been taking methotrexate since I was 13 years old. My vitals get tested every 3 months. I always feel like I should 'try to stop taking these meds'. However, methotrexate keeps me healthy and alive. 12 years later I'm still learning to accept the fact I need this heavy medication to function. I especially recognise the fact that it functions like a painkiller to me, too. But, every time I end up at the GP or one time in the emergency room, they tell me I should reconsider taking methotrexate because it limits the medication they can give me in that moment. I can't get NSAIDs. They don't always seem to understand that methotrexate is what keeps me functioning like a normal person. If I hadn't had methotrexate, I would have never leave my house because of the pain. I would have never been able to build the functioning life I've got now as a child psychologist. Without mtx, I'd at best be depressed.

Thank you Dr. for your video I have been taking Methotrexate for almost 2 months now. It is especially for the pain in my hip It doesn't take all the pain away but enough so I can function and do my daily tasks. As far as side effects are concerned I don't have a problem. I would definitely tell anyone to at least try it because it is a good medication

I have mild side effects when taking MTX (not always), mostly nausea, mouth ulcers and fatigue the day I take the tablets and sometimes the following day. But, my doctor prescribed me folic acid (5mg) to be taken 3 times a week instead of just one: I have less side effects, I feel better, although not a huge difference. Anyway, MTX has made me much good in my PsA. Thank you for your video, doctor. All your videos looks to me really good, science based and useful. Muchas gracias.

I have been taking it for a year, and exactly like you say, I hesitated for a year before that to take it because of all my research on google. I ended up taking it because my RA was getting out of control. Since taking it, I have hardly any symptoms of RA and I live very well! I felt some minor side effects at the beginning but overall I would suggest to anyone who is recommended it by their Rheumatologist to give it a go for at least a month to make a personal decision. Especially if diagnosed early, M can help with remission eventually. Good luck everyone! If you are watching this video, you must be facing some health concerns..To conclude, it works for me and I wish I had taken it sooner.

Hello sushma.. I need to tell you a few things here: First: your grade 1 meniscal tear will not cause severe pain and effusion.. probably this is your rheumatoid arthritis (your rheumatologist can confirm this with the symptoms' description and with an ultrasound if needed) Second: the methotrexate, with the very small doses used in rheumatology, will not affect the healing of the meniscus and it should not worry the Ortho doctors Third: the elevation of the liver enzymes is caused by the methotrexate and it is not a problem.. the rheumatologist will manage this by a temporary decrease or holding of methotrexate until they come back to normal again Fourth and fifth: thank you so much for being a fan of my videos.. you made my day.. ❤❤

Dr examined me ,asked some questions and made some lab tests like anti ccp, RH , HLA B 27 and uric acid etc, all the results were within the range and I was gave some medicine including steroids (gupison) and pain killers etc which controlled the pain to some extent. after that as per doctor's advise I started taking Slazopyrin along with calcium and vitamin D tablets.than doctor recommended MRI of waist, after MRI report Dr confirmed AS, and prescribed arava along with slazopyrin still I'm taking both of these. So now as you told that arava has no place in management of AS, than what should I do now ? plz plz help me by guiding me regarding a suitable treatment. thanx alot sir. I believe that u will reply

Her side effects included very bad constipation and bad stomach too to the point where food was not getting digested in her stomach for hours. Also she had a very bad case of hair shedding. For a woman, losing hair is really painful. Taking folic acid with the medication is making the constipation worse. She got scared and stopped taking it. She was on 2.5 for 4 days. She took it for a month only. What can we do to reduce side effects? She had issues with thyroid, and she had fatty liver few years ago. It's good that you have this good experience with adalimumab. But this is only your personal experience that should not be a recommendation to every other single patient in this world. The point is that it is not about 2024 and what is more modern. It is about what is more suitable for a given patient. Adalimumab, the more modern worked perfectly for you and so does the earlier medications including methotrexate with other patients. This note is primarily for other patients who read the comments so that they do not get confused about their treatments that might be different from yours.
