Description: m6a writers are a significant part of determining the decay and regulation of mRNA transcripts. In this paper by Yue et al., the major protein VIRMA is characterized with regard to its function within the m6a-methyltransferase complex. More specifically, the authors determine the importance of VIRMA in directing site-specific m6a methylation near the stop codon within the 3' UTR, implicate the regulatory importance of this finding in mRNA decay and alternative polyadenylation, and characterized the full scope of target transcripts affected by the VIRMA-directed m6a methylation regulatory complex.
