For you young'uns who are sad you missed the 80s- it was exactly like this. Every week you'd turn on the radio in your car and some new amazing song would come blasting out. The Tubes, The Police, Pat Benatar, Eddie Money, A Flock Of Seagulls, Billy Squier, Cheap Trick, Michael Jackson, The Stray Cats, a river of gold flowing, baby. If you were in a band and a song like this came out, you'd all scramble to learn it to play it the coming weekend, and the whole place would be up and singing along. "Good times."

Ain't that the truth! Man, I'm 67 now but when songs from the Cars, The Tubes, and all those other bands you've mentioned were doing their thing, I have to bet money that I didn't have a better time than the time I had in those years! I'm a drummer and sat in with many no-name bands when they needed a drummer because their guy was lost someplace. I knew all these songs and it was like you said, the hit would make the radio on Monday, and these bands would be playing it in the clubs & bars on Friday night! I particularly recall a band that would call me a lot for a run of Hootie & The Blowfish hits that seemed to come out back to back for weeks on end. It was great! Even though we all made little mistakes now & then, (due to that lack of time to practice), the crowds loved it and it just seemed like some of my best times were all stuffed in that 4 to 6 year period... I miss it all but then, that's how it works... Rich

I can't remember his first name but if you go to the Wikipedia page for the song it has a chapter on the video for it with his name, you can click on it and go to the Wikipedia page for him. So weird how songs pop into your head from long ago...yet you remember then so well. How can your mind remember so much?

Like it was yesterday, Mark. Late 70's / early 80's cheesy videos describe an entire generation (although MTV didn't debut until Aug '81, many bands were already making promotional films for their one or two hit songs from an album). MTV even destroyed some musicians -- There was/is a progressive band called "Renaissance", who had a stunning lead singer, but the station did a concert with them headlining in ~1981, and they didn't seem to come across too well w the audience. Steve Forbert, who did the hit "Romeo's Tune" fell into the nexus as well (he is seen as the guy Cyndi Lauper marries in her "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" video, so he'll always have).

First concert I ever went to was the Completion Backward Principle Tour back in '81. With a different stage set and costumes for pretty much every song, it's still one of the best concerts I've been to; certainly the most memorable.

I used to play this song in my old band. Singing that high harmony was a bit out of my range but I did it anyway. Dave, our lead guitarist, played Luke's part just about note for note. One of my favourite songs.

What a great song and video!! I remember very well watching this on MTV. The guitar soloing at the end is epic! Saw them live just a few years ago. It was a GREAT show and the band was all very cool, meeting with all the fans after the show and signing autographs.
