This is an introductory video on the study of God. You will learn the reasons we believe in God, a range of beliefs from the world and within Christianity, God's primary characteristics from the Bible, and his distinct triune nature.
Session 1: Introduction | This video series is part of a Bible reading plan at Anthem Church, which provides the key scriptures that form and support 10 foundational Christian beliefs.
Section 2: My Story | Pastor Phil explains from his lived experience why his belief in God matters to him, and how the loss of his Father tested his belief in a loving and just God.
Session 3: Our Story | We all have a story that explains how life has shaped our view of God, whether rejecting him, recognizing a higher power, or religiously following him. Pastor Phil brings us into the significance of this study by getting personal.
Session 4: Outcome | You will form a more coherent Christian belief about who God is and what he has done as revealed in the scriptures. Our goal is to give you the background, Biblical definition, and historical background to understand the issues surrounding this topic.
Session 5: How do we know God exists? | Creation gives us evidence of God from both reason and experience. You will learn about the four traditional arguments for God from creation.
Session 6: What does the world believe about God? | You will learn about the nine alternatives to Christian Theism, including what they are, and how we respond as a Christian. Paul challenges us to hold onto our life and doctrine as we engage our multi-faith world.
Session 7: What are the different Christian views of God? | You will learn about a range of Christian beliefs, but focusing in on Classical Theism, Process Theology and Open Theism. In addition, we'll explore how to respond to all of what we can know about God.
Session 8: How do we respond? | You will learn about the tension of our Christian belief in God, which is based on God's sovereignty over our world and involvement in our world. This will set-up the next two sessions on God's perspective, and then our perspective.
Session 9: God's Sovereignty | You will learn an in-depth description of God's authority over us, the implications for us to hold to this belief, the scriptural support, as well as why it matters to us
Session 10: Our Freedom | You will learn an in-depth description of mankind's role and responsibility in relation to live in relation to God, the implications for us to hold to this belief, the scriptural support, as well as why it matters to us.
Session 11: Conclusion on Our Views of God | You will understand the point, and key issue to consider as we seek to be a Church that values diverse, Biblically-grounded Christian theology.
Session 12: Names of God | You will learn about the names of God in the Bible, focusing in on his primary ones of "Elohim" and "Yahweh," and then what that means for us and how it helps us to connect with God in prayer.
Session 13: Definition of God | With all this said, what conclusions do we make about God? Pastor Phil shares the 4 essential core attributes that define God, the relatable characteristics of God, and then the unrelatable characteristics of God.
Session 14: Trinity of God | You will learn what the Trinity is, how it came to be, where the scriptures support this best, and why it matters for us in our daily lives.
Session 15: Concluding Thoughts | Pastor Phil reminds us of the importance of what we are doing and how this study of God builds towards our next video.
