"Nobody cares" is a very positive thing. Being reminded about this makes it much less stressful to produce something.

I think the takeaway here is "nobody cares about your game...yet!" Because if no one knows your game exists, how can they care?
@orangepixelgames

True! So tell as many people as possible and convince them to care! Also known as marketing and PR 😁

People start to care once they like at least one of your games a lot. It makes them look forward to what comes next.

At some point I was working on 2 different games, one that was a remake of an existing well known game, and an original one. I asked on my discord what people were looking for. 40 points for the remake, 1 point for the original one. Nobody cares, unless you promise them something they already want!

Sadly there's truth in that..

I was wondering if it's why I'm struggling to get attention. A lot of people complain about retro FPS just being Doom/Quake clone and lack of originality, but however crude those clones are they often seem to eventually get more attention than my stuff.

@@LeFaucheur If you find a fan base, manage to understand what they actually want, and to communicate well with them, it's pretty much an open door. But you still have to understand why other may have failed doing the same. It's a weird part of indie, just remaking what big companies don't.

@@LeFaucheur there are always "a lot of people" complaining about something :) Apparently there are a lot more people that do like FPS games and you don't hear them, because they are enjoying the games instead of jumping on forums/comment-sections/discord channels

I think pirate/crack versions is another way of getting first impressions about the game.Because most of the time some are sold that are expensive or doesn't have big discounts yet So while some ppl are saving money, they might try getting a free version to know if it's worth the collection or not, then they would be like "ahh..imma get this at sales"

you can refund on all stores.. so that's not really a reason to "steal" a game instead

To me looks like gamedev kind of dying. 15 years ago every release was expected by audience, now nobody cares. But even games now not so fresh as they were, just remakes and remasters. What do you think, is it real tendency?
@orangepixelgames
2 жыл бұрын
The market changes for sure, but I don't think it's dying. There's always possibilities and the market will change again in the next 15 years to maybe have less games, or different ways to make money with games, etc.
