Very interesting. How is it possible to build a structure like this on the water? Doesn’t Ontario have regulations about not building 100 meters from the high water mark?
@Lala1319
3 жыл бұрын
as these are floating they are technically a boat not a land structure. They built these in an existing covered slip in a marina, which is a great idea for the owner to make more $$ than just renting the slip out to boaters in the small part of the year that is warm.

They are basically on Pigeon lake, which is part of the Trent system that manages the water levels through many dams throughout the system. I believe part of the video states that they modified the roof structure to add additional room for the units to float higher when water levels are high.

This changes widely by season and holidays. Check out the website for booking. It is quite painful to see availability as you basically have to search for specific dates, but with some patience it is possible. I booked a few days in June mid-week for $225 a night plus fees. For a place that sleeps 5 (two double/queen beds plus a single) that isn't bad for being RIGHT on the water.

The concept and excecution are great, but I can't help but feel that the second bathroom is a waste of space in such a tiny home. Obviously designed to be a holiday let, and not actually a full-time living situation.
@keaneder
Жыл бұрын
That's exactly right. most times when these are rented people pull out the sofa and put cots downstairs. so if you are sleeping upstairs it would feel intrusive to walk around everyone at 2 am when they are sleeping.

These are rental units so no one lives in them permanently. There is a small dresser in the bedroom and I saw briefly in the video some coat hangers near the top of the stairs. In this configuration with the 2nd bathroom upstairs, there is limited space to store things, but seeing as most people would only be there a week or less, not a huge issue.

LOOKS GREAT --- but way way way WAY too small... The Minimum Living Space Required To Prevent Insanity Is: Total Lot (100'×26') 2,600 sf... Structure & Garage (45.5x17.5) + (25.5x13.5) 1,140.5 sf... INTERIOR SF: House (44'x16') 704 sf... Covered Patio (10'x12') 120 sf... Covered Entrance (4'x5') 20 sf... Garage (12'x24') 288 sf... NOTES: Exterior Walls 148 sf... Driveway (22'x18') 396 sf... Two Story Adds: 140 sf. Due Extra Bath & Stairway... Also adds 300 sf. To Total Lot... Again, This Is The Minimum Size For An Independent Home Structure... The Structure Is No Bigger Than A One Bedroom Apartment With A Single Car Garage... The Lot Is Only Large Enough To Include A Double Car Driveway And 4' Clearance On Each Side Of The Structure With 5' Clearance At The Rear... (Code requires a minimum of 5' Clearance down each side)... Again, these are way, way, way, WAY too small... Unless you're less than 4' tall...

@@rickhuttono1 Considering the tiny home movement is gaining a lot of traction, it seems that small spaces are adequate for many people. Also consider that a studio condo or 1-bedroom apartment in a city are often times 500 sq. ft. To someone who has always lived in a detached home with a yard, this will seem small, but that is certainly not the case for everyone
