This is probably the most embarrassing video I'll ever make but as it has such a significant effect on the future of this channel I can't put it off anymore.
This week our little channel passed 4,000 subscribers and I'm so grateful to everyone who's subscribed and interacted with me here on KZitem but today I need to ask for help from every single one of you! Despite the fact that I've put my all into every video I've made on this channel since it started in 2017 my videos have NEVER received the minimum amount of views per 365 days in order for me to monetize this channel.
Although we now have over 4,000 members of this little community we have not managed to reach a minimum of 4,000 watch hours which is pretty devastating for me as a creator. Knowing that each of my subscribers hasn't even watched 1 hour of long-form video in the past year (shorts views are calculated separately) has totally knocked my confidence as a creator.
To make things worse If you've ever been served an ad when watching one of my videos then you witnessed KZitem profiting from my hard work, whilst simultaneously telling me my content is not worthy of advertisers. This will only get worse as KZitem is removing creator control over ads before the end of the year, making it likely that you will see more ads across the platform and therefore more profit for KZitem.
I didn't start this community to attempt to profit from it, but nor do I spend weeks at a time on single videos in order for KZitem to profit from them at my expense. After 6 long years of doing my best, I'm ready to throw in the towel and admit that my content just doesn't resonate with my audience.
If we can't get to my goal of 4,000 watch hours on long-form videos by the end of this year then I will be shifting my time and attention away from KZitem towards my blog www.theirritab....
If you've ever found any of my videos, recipes or content valuable then please consider watching or rewatching a few videos to give my numbers a boost. I hate to come at you with such a negative post but in all these years I've been transparent about how I'm feeling and this right here is the cold hard truth.
Thanks so much for being here, I wouldn't have stuck it out this long without your kindness and comments. Thanks for watching, and I hope to speak to you soon, byeee.
Want to show your support for these videos? You can buy me a coffee here: ko-fi.com/their... (Decaf, oat milk, IBS friendly of course).
Thanks for watching

P.S To make a few things a bit clearer that I didn't express very well in the video... In order to upload videos on KZitem you automatically grant them the right to monetize your videos with ads as they see fit.
For the creator to benefit from these ads there are several criteria and thresholds you need to meet to be approved for the partnership program. Until you satisfy all of the requirements, 100% of the revenue earned from ads belongs to KZitem. Once you qualify for the partnership program the revenue from ads is split between the creator (55%) and KZitem (45%).
One of the main reasons this is frustrating is that KZitem justifies these requirements by saying that advertisers are not interested in paying for ads on videos that don’t get enough views. However, they directly contradict this by then serving paid ads on the videos of creators that haven’t met the requirements.
Whenever ads are placed on a channel it can have a negative effect on views and watch time as ads turn people off and they click away. This is a trade-off that monetized creators get to weigh up for themselves but accounts like mine do not. Ultimately, this means that not only are KZitem profiting from the hard work of small creators but they are also having a detrimental effect on their watch time by serving ads. This in turn makes it harder for the small creator to hit the requirements and round and round we go.
When the new ad rules come in at the end of the year this will only get worse as KZitem begins to rely on AI to decide which videos, when and how many ads will be placed on every video on KZitem, ultimately resulting in more revenue for KZitem and lost views for creators. Your favourite creators need your support, now more than ever. Thanks for reading.
