I love it! LoL, I grew up in the central valley in Cali. My dad was a farmer. We had a large Mexican, Filipino, Portuguese, Lao, Hmong, and Cambodian community in my area.... What you said reminded me of us shopping at ANY store where there were older Asian, Mexican or Portuguese woman, AND they were all under 5 feet 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣... My mom was one of them shoving people out of her way for deals 😂😂... Thanks for that, great memories came back to me ☺️.. btw, love your videos! My goal this year is less waste better shopping methods and put that money towards savings.. Thanks for the videos ❤️

YES!! Great content (as usual) AND it's ASMR without you even trying 👍😁👏. You were born with it: a low soothing voice. Awesome job!! A similar thing happened with youtuber YangHaiying. She's an artist and mathematician but was told she had natural ASMR so she went with it. She doesn't focus on frugal minimalism but she does film in grocery stores a lot and gets lots of requests for Chinese language videos. If you get a chance to look at her massive body of work, you will see how she just does whatever she wants in life, talks about it and gets subscribers. Occasionally she gets a comment that her video is not 'real' ASMR because she doesn't do a bunch of tapping sounds and things like that but she just ignores it and we all love her.

Because I live in North County, I usually hit 5-6 stores when doing my Poway/San Diego run. Just curious, have you tried other brands of rice from Zion? I use the same rice in the blue bag, but I think it’s very bland. I only use it for congee. I like the “Green Rice” brand, when Zion has it on sale. I purchase the same tofu too!! Now that I have an Instant Pot, I’m going to make my own tofu. I hope to meet you someday in a shopping run! 🙂

You don't have to keep plain yogurt in the fridge. I keep it in a cool, dark place, unopened, and it might get tangier, but it doesn't go bad. It's sterilized, and sealed, and already fermented. Like pickles and such. Doesn't get mold until it's opened. So, I buy it by the case where it's $1.50-2.00 cheaper on the mainland than here. I buy Zoi Honey Greek yogurt, and make smoothies from that, orange juice, and frozen fruit, and freeze the leftovers for easy dessert.
@jzthompson9598

I live on an island, and I usually go grocery shopping on the mainland once a month, to Grocery Outlet, Winco, Trader Joe's, Dollar Tree, the Asian market, and the Indian market. It's an all-day affair. I usually spend $100-150, and come home and refill the freezer, restock the shelves. I consider it my sport, and I keep in training for it. lol I save so much money on gas doing it this way, too. Fortunately, I spent much more at the beginning of the pandemic last March, and haven't been off the island since then. I have a deep pantry. I shop the local grocery store for perishables, and only buy on sale. Even bread, milk, basics, (like ice cream, lol) and splurges. Wine is the only thing I can't get on sale. I eat incredibly well on ~$140/month. Trader Joe's frozen food aisle is my friend, and my downfall. It made me laugh to see you using your check boxes for organizers. I have been doing that for over 50 years. Before this whole craze of 'organizers" became a thing. I've been reusing jars forever. You did get me with the idea of storing peas in a ketchup bottle. I don't use that, so I'll never have one of those. I haven't watched you long enough to see if you have an electric pressure cooker. It's my lifesaver. Quick, easy, and I seldom have to wash a pan any more. I never burn anything, either. A cast iron skillet on a butane stove is my other cooking implement, with the microwave and toaster oven getting some use, too. I cook nearly everything from scratch, but bread. One of these days, though.... I, too, use grocery bags to organize my freezer. Been doing that for 40 years, ever since I got my first chest freezer. I usually just use doubled paper bags, but I'm considering getting some from Dollar Tree so I don't have to replace them every time I defrost. Although, that keeps them cooler during the time they're out of the freezer, and they're free, and recyclable. It's fun to watch someone young doing the things I've been doing for years. I'm glad that you're passing on this information, so that I don't have to.....

Sorry, I just couldn't stand to watch the whole thing. Not only do we not have prices anything like that here, but we also have to pay one of the highest sales taxes in the country on top of that. We have no 99cent store, no outlet, only 2 grocery stores in town & their "sales" are pretty much non existant. I could drive an hour away to another city, but having lived there before I know that the prices there are no better. You really are fortunate to have such low prices in your area, it should make keeping a low food budget very easy. I personally have to eat nothing but eggs for days then I get a little bit of meat for a couple of days. I'm on a strict keto diet, so no potato, beans, grains, fruit, etc for me, but I do serve that to my kids.

We have to save on bread to good to go in Holland. When the day is over you can order through a app and you can order for the next day. It costs 4.99 for a whole week of bread. And maby you can get a pie or ready sandwhiches. And we have today soup left from last week and when we have the sandwhiches we are very lucky and get it for 50 cents or less through that app. And it comes from a baker. So win win. And my daughter likes bananas like me and we will buy them buy at liddle. And the Meat and the veggies and the potatoes i buy them when they are almost through and we get them at the end of the day for 50 cents or a euro. depends what it discounted. And also there is some steak when we are lucky and the lunch or done meals i stocked them and they were normally they are 5 or 7 dollars and now 50 cents. And everything is in the freezer. So we can eat for 2 or 3 weeks now.

Hi I just wash them and place in the crock right after. The water stuck on them is enough. Then low for 7-8 hours. I have a video for that along with some other slow cooking hacks - kzitem.info/news/bejne/pqlsq3lvbXaqnJg

Happy New Year! Good year-to-year comparison on groceries. I always look for the Woohoo! stickers and check out the $1 produce at the local Kroger’s (Fred Meyer). I got two bags of 6 smallish navel oranges and a bag of 6 Yukon Gold potatoes for $1 each a couple of days ago. Thank you for the tip on making sure the reduced label is correct for use in the the Buy 5/Save $5 offers. Also, thanks you for the tip on past “best by date” yogurt-does that apply if you get yogurt with fruit in it or just to plain yogurt?

Happy New Year, Jeanne! Those stickers are fun. I hear Homer Simpson saying it when I see them. 😂 Great produce finds! 🙌 For the yogurt with the fruit on the bottom, I've never had an issue with those either even after months, but your mileage may vary. I've only ever seen moldy yogurt on one package that had a broken seal, and it was pretty obviously bad - smelled sour and looked broken and watery. If you have any doubt at all, then better to not risk it and just discard it. I hope this helps!

Wendy I love your tips and tricks. Could you please send me your link to your video about "pink beans" in the slow cooker? I finally found pink beans and I remember your great video. I should have marked it. Happy New Year🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

I'm so glad you enjoy them! Yes, definitely this is the video - kzitem.info/news/bejne/tqp_16WMcoyCdnY. I'm not sure about pink beans though. Maybe it's my bad pronunciation 😅. it's actually Peruano beans. I'm sorry for any confusion! Happy New Year to you too, Lee! 💜

Hi the one store is called Zion Market on Clairemont Mesa it’s a Korean store I believe and it’s pretty close to your brother! The grocery outlet and 99 cent store are in Mira Mesa so he should be able to visit those stores easily. I hope he can find great deals! It’s very kind of you to watch out for him 😃

Wendy, how do you use all your bell peppers? All I know is to chop them & freeze in zip lock bags.

Hi Theresa bell peppers go fast here. My son and I will eat them raw as snacks and we stir fry them. Those last pretty long just in the fridge after washing and drying them. 3 of the yellow peppers from this video I used in another video about extending produce life if you're interested - kzitem.info/news/bejne/ynpu3IhnhXNje6g. I hope this helps!

I do the sniff and appearance on yogurt. This past week I ate fruited yogurt with a best buy date of September 24, 2020. It was delicious and I had no stomach issues whatsoever. It did have live cultures. I love your tips. I freeze practically everything for later use(yogurt was not frozen, however). Diane in NC

I have to add one more comment. I visit Seoul a lot. One time I sprained both ankles, so I was moving very slowly through a market. An ahjumma (Korean for an older woman worthy of respect) pushed me out of her way, and I just laughed. It wasn't personal; it was just a woman making sure she got the respect she was due. Kind of admirable, actually.

That was such a nice video to watch, I loved it. Yeah, its always crowded around a good bargain place :D! I have experience in that department, our people are the same(Slovenian), you need to get to the store fast and get the item and then get out, ha ha! The most crowded store in our country is usually Lidl. It always makes my day when I find a good bargain :)
