I have to say that I loved these two videos. We are brand new to this life of living in an RV. currently we are stationary for the winter. But we are planning to hit the road in the spring. I will say we have a F150 and a 30 FT Travel trailer. We did our due diligence to make sure our truck could pull the trailer. The plus side we have is that our truck is a heavy half (so it's more 3/4 ton then half ton) and we have the awesome stabilizer tow bars. We traveled on the mountain roads in BC this fall and didn't have any issues. Hubby has priced out a computer module to give the truck more power and air bags in case we do decide to up grade. but I think by the time we upgrade we'll be in a bigger tow truck.

It sounds like you guys are doing it the right way. We have traveled all over the USA and have seen it all. As long as you are conscious about the truck and trailer, then you’re good to go. There are a LOT of RVers that do not ensure the vehicle is adequate for the RV. You will see the same thing as you travel in the Spring. We always love seeing a large SUV towing a 40ft travel trailer with a pontoon boat attached when we are out west. LOL. Best, Pam & Lee

You are absolutely right. I don't care how much solar you have. Every day isn't sunny. You had better have a generator. When you are doing your walk around before leaving look on your roof. Make sure everything is down. There is nothing worse than seeing someone lose a satellite dish. On a class A diesel pusher you can have anywhere from 4 to 10 airbags the coach rides on. The number you have makes a huge difference in ride comfort. Fortunately we have 10. We have never had anything fly out of a shelf let alone lose the microwave or have our refrigerator move. God bless you guys.

Yep my husband Brad is the talker. He's a Marine so he will talk to the rocks in the yard if they will talk back. And we too have the talkers that tend to come by to talk as we are packing up. And things NOBODY talks about is "bad weather". Where do you go? Do you leave, do you stay? And if you have that camp site deep in the trees during that bad weather. We have come home from a day at the ball park (when my daughter was still playing travel ball) to see a tree came down on one of the trailers in the park. Praise God no one was hurt but their trailer was going to need to be fixed.

You are in a different situation than I am in. You are young, you two must be happily married fairly recently, two beautiful young children, a 5th wheel, a duly pick-up, diesel, producing weekly videos (which I love to see) and hopefully you are making a living with your full-time efforts. On the other hand, I am married for 53 years (happily), been camping for 50 years with tents, pop-ups, trailers, currently on our 2nd 36 foot motorhome, gas, tow a car on a dolly and retired. Our experiences parallel a lot of yours, but there are many differences. #1 Talking. Some of the nicest people are campers. I am just as guilty as Lee, I do try to let people know I am in deep thought trying to set up or take down so I will talk later. #2 Battery charging. With camp ground prices today, I love various types of dry camping. I have four lithium batteries totaling 800 amp hours of storage, 3 inverters totaling 7,000 watts, NO solar cells, my wife prefers electric cooking due to a gas explosion in our house 44 years ago. There are many advantages to electric. Cooler camper on hot days, toast early in the morning, coffee late at night and a microwave any time of day. I can charge with the generator but usually get a full charge from the truck’s alternator while traveling. Of corse, camp ground AC charging is always taken advantage of. #3 Poor Reception. I like to feel that we are roughing it. I welcome no telephone calls. I have grown to dislike TV especially when trying to “camp”. #4 Agreed. #5 Truck-Trailer mismatch. I see it all the time. Also, speeding. I try to stay around 60 to maybe 65 MPH but do recognize that can sometimes be annoy the people behind me. I can usually assist them in getting around me. I feel 65 with a lot of trailers is far too fast and unsafe. #6 My pads can’t come off. I also use 12 X 12 wood blocks to aid in support for soft ground and not to leave “foot prints” in black top sites. #7 Valuables. We have been very lucky. If you have a bad feeling about your location, it may be best to leave. #8 Travel day. Some good thoughts there. #9 Campfire cost. We do the same thing. We enjoy a good camp fire, but not too often. #10 Big truck parking. We tow a car on a dolly so we visit using the car. We have been watching your family since near the beginning. I admire your videos and get a lot of useful information. Don

Escape Trailers [Chilliwack, BC Canada 🇨🇦] makes a Fifthwheel model, Escape 5.0 which is truly made to be towed with the Ford F-150. Factory dry weight for the Escape 5.0 is approximately 3850 lbs, trailer GVWR 5500 lbs, pin weight depending on trailer loading 670-975 lbs. The Ford F-150 configured with max trailer and heavy duty payload packages can easily handle the Escape 5.0 Fifthwheel travel trailer. I was very very skeptical at first, but after much digging, now I’m a believer.

Hi Paul, Will do. Thank you. We like to tell people that RVing will always keep you learning things every single day. We enjoy the process and are very thankful that we have the chance to experience traveling the country as a family. A big part of the journey are the mistakes that you make along the way. We realized early on that showing people the mistakes we made wasn't unique to just our family. It was actually quite common for most RVers. The words "I don't know" is a great start to success. However, it's when you hear "Don't worry about it" is when things are about to go south. LOL. We love to hear about other RV families and their experiences along the way too. The best part of RVing is always the RV Community and the wonderful people you meet along the way. All the best, Pam & Lee

Parking and driving a dually has its challenges. My husband had to have 30 days of radiation therapy to kill a brain tumor. He is fine now and will survive but we could never use the truck to park at the hospital. They had no surface parking, only a parking structure. We were too tall. Thankfully we have a second vehicle and didn't have to rely on the duelly.

I took a piece of 1/2" PVC pipe, cut it to the length of the deep slide-out then marked off with a Sharpie the bed slide out and opposing slide out on the pipe. #2 I always suggest a small inverter generator instead of solar first! It is Cheaper thensolar and always works to charge your batteries. Then go solar so you dont have to use your generator as much. I boondock/dry camp 90% of the time. 1:small generator 2: solar 3: LIfepo4 batteries 4: inverter. If you go in thisorfer you can start to boondock right away and grow your system how you like.

We just recently ran into a situation in a campground where the police visited our neighbor about thieving from our other neighbor on the opposite side of us. Apparently they had a little thieving operation going on and got caught. Hauled one of them to the pokie. Wife overheard one of them say " I'm not going to jail again." Apparently this was not their first time. This is why the wife insists on locking the coach up like fort knox. I've always had a more trusting attitude and kinda scoff at her for making me go around and lock every door and shut every window. Sad but true, she was right as usual. I did however think it was kinda strange that they moved from one spot in the campground to right next to us right after we pulled in and the female of the group was walking around on our camp area seemingly staring at their trailer which at that point (after a few hours) not even hooked up at all to the hookups. Now we believe she was casing our place.
