Meteorologist Ashley Renee has your 6:50 am forecast. Good morning and happy Tuesday. It will be another hot and humid day. Highs will be in the upper 90s and heat indices will be near 110-115. An excessive heat warning will be in effect from 10 am until 7 pm. Skies will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy. Isolated showers and thunderstorms will move through during the afternoon and evening. We’ll deal with very hot and humid weather all week long. Highs will remain in the mid and upper 90s with heat indices at least near 110-115 for the following days. Tracking the tropics: Hurricane Beryl is a Category 5 storm. As of this morning, it has wind speeds of 165 mph. Its pressure is at 934 mb. It will continue moving west through the Caribbean and bring hurricane force winds, flooding and heavy rainfall to Caribbean islands. As of now, its projected track still shows it moving west towards the Yucatan Peninsula by the end of the week and then crossing over into the southern Gulf. As of now, there still aren’t any threats for us here in Louisiana and along the northern Gulf Coast, but that will depend on if the ridge of high pressure remains strong enough and centered over our area for a few more days. A strong ridge of high pressure over our area will keep Beryl farther south and moving west. Model guidance shows the ridge weakening some and moving east later this week. If it weakens some and moves to the east, then that might allow for Beryl to take a turn and move north. The current projected track is showing Beryl moving towards the NE coast of Mexico late this weekend/early next week. Again, this is a possibility. There’s still some uncertainty past the end of this work week. Lastly, there is Invest 96L. It’s not too far behind Beryl, but good news is, it now has lower chances of developing into a tropical depression or storm. It will still be monitored as it moves through the central and western Atlantic. Our immediate concern though is the heat and higher heat indices. Please take good care of yourselves especially if you have to work outside. And remember, don’t leave kids or pets in a hot car. Look before you lock! Thanks for watching. Have a terrific Tuesday!
