Just have to say I have watched ALL your twining videos several times over the past three years, ever since I took a class and wanted more help. Yours are--hands down-- the best at explaining each part, and I appreciate the fact that you made a video for each step. I have also recommended your videos to my friends who took the class with me. Since I don't get to do this very often, I find that watching the video again is a great refresher. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise with us!

I was thinking... when I make my fringe, I may make some chenille strips and make them into tassels ... out of the same material the rug is made from. Perhaps that might make interesting. I also thought, the loops at the end might make a great loop to crochet into and do some lace work at the ends. Oh, well ... just musing. Love your videos. I'm just starting and my mind keeps coming up with ideas. :)

+Faith Rich Fidler I think all your ideas are fantastic. You will have to take pictures for the Facebook page. LibbyLuLa Traditional Crafts. You can check them out, too. But about your ideas I love it. Stimulating creative crafting is what it's all about. Onward and upward.

3wolves, No I don't always fold the frayed edges in. When I twine a rug out of used blue jean strips I let let some of the frayed ends show because I like that look. Experiment! If you want a less 'formal' look(and rag rugs are not very formal themselves to begin with) the ends may add texture or interest to the look. I have a blue jean rug without fringe in my entry way on an unfinished floor to look 'relaxed' and not fussy! Thank you for the complement regarding the pink rug and the videos. If you love twining then you've fulfilled my purpose!

your videos are awesome and so clear. I love this but not sure how to end the weaving and removing it from the loom. Have you done a video on this process? thank you
@iamauntmeem

I suppose you could finish down to the end. I think it might have a tendency to unravel more easily at the end. In the middle it would hold together better by the action of all the tight weaving around it. The rug relaxes after it off the loom. That's why you let it on the floor for 24 hours after it's off the loom. then do the finishing off the loose nubs, etc.

Thanks to you I'm hooked on rugs! I've made 4 so far and everyone I make is better than the one before. I had purchased the loom out of California, but it didn't come with instructions so I was really delighted to find your excellent videos. My question is should I warp everyother dowel if the fabric is heavy denim? The denim I have is just not as flexable as regular cotton fabric I've used in twinning the other rugs?

I just cut the denim a little smaller, about an inch wide, and still warped every dowel. I'm glad you found my videos. I wanted to let people know how to use up old sheets, jeans and dockers! Twine on!

Your workmenship is really impressive. Just the care you take on turning in the raw edges of your strips makes a major difference to your finished rug. There is a big difference between "homemade" and "handmade" and your rugs are definately artisan "handmade". One question though, every instruction says to finish the rug in the middle, as you do here. Why can't you twine straight down to the end? It is a matter of wear? I would think it would be easier.

We are going to finish a rug within the next few days and remove it from the loom. We'll show how to finish it and remove it. I will, also, make and and fringe. (We made one but in reviewing it it wasn't complete so we are doing a better one!) Thank you so much for you question. If you are subscribed to our videos you will get a notification of the new video.

Does it matter what color you use for the warp? Will it show in the end result?
@iamauntmeem

Hi, Robert, Yes, you will see the warp peeking through, but not a lot if you tighten up the rows throughout the rug. I usually use a neutral or coordinating color, something that doesn't stand out.

I'm waiting to start my next rug for a custom order and we'll show the removal and finish on that rug. We had made one and I accidentally turned the camera off during that part of the filming. Sorry It will be up with in a week week & a half. Thank you so much for your question.

Hello, I have my loom warped out of a double size white cotton sheet. That went very very. I have lots of cotton fabric from quilt making to start the weaving but was wondering what width do you cut your strips for the weft? Thank you so much.
@iamauntmeem
7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Bee Ann. It depends on the material. If it's cotton for quilting depending on the thickness or heaviness of the fabric I cut or rip the weft strips at 1 1/2" to 2" wide. I fold them over to hide the edges as I go for a more finished rug or just twine as they are. If I use denim jean material I rip weft strips 3/4" to 1 inch depending on the weight. Winter weight 3/4" summer weight 1". You'll get the feel for the material as you go. You already have a good understanding of material if you are a quilter. Thank you for your question, happy twining! Jan

Please explain how to change color in rows. I tried to follow your video and got lost. Please help :)
@iamauntmeem

Hi, Elaine, When you get to about 3" from the end of the row you are twining that you want to be the last row in that color you cut those strips to approximately 3 inches. I measure by pulling the strips to the rod and just about a 1/2" to an inch passed the rod I cut the strips to that length. I put my slit cut in each strip at the edge/end, like always, and add my new color. Then I continue twining just as usual.
