I've never even really thought about drainage systems until I started watching these videos. Now when I see a flooded street I get the urge to get a rake and unclog the drains. I mean, I'm pretty lazy so I'm not really gonna do it but, you know, I think about it.

When you worked with the tires, you made me remember a thing that I've wanted to do for a while; recycling plastic/tires for a business. I live on the Ohio river, and my old job use to be clearing out log jams.. and saw countless amounts of tires and other plastic trash in creeks. Would absolutely love to remove the trash to make something good of it.

Tank is probably still there. A lot of old gas stations sit abandoned for years because the cost of removing them is very high due to environmental regulations and remediation if fuel leaked out into the ground.

Whitney B ... The cost to remove a tank is not all that bad UNLESS it's been leaking, in which case the clean up is a royal pain. (read: expensive)

@@Me-qp8vz ... I worded it different because we each stressed a different point. I have actually been involved in a few tank jobs, so I have some firsthand experience. Interesting to note that MOST tanks being removed now are not leaking. They are being swapped out on the rule that they have a fixed life span. (usually 30 years or less)

Unfortunately I don't think he is. Whether or not he has an engineering or hydrology degree, he definitely knows what he is doing and hope he gets into a position that can and gives him public servant authority to do what he does. He also seems like a really good dude, wish he lived near me.

It's not just bureaucracy, but also safety concerns - as employers, they'd be responsible for his safety, and some of the stuff he finds fun (like taking apart clogs with his bare hands) wouldn't be allowed as part of an official job position. Such regulation *should* exist by the way, since it's impossible to generally separate a "voluntary" position from just a normal employee; it would otherwise open up the system to abuse workers who are just there for a job. I wonder though if there isn't some sort of workaround possible, although it's probably just a case-by-case "I get what you're doing and I'll turn a blind eye to it" situation in the end.

I started doing this here in Eugene Oregon now and then. It is satisfying and reminds me of when we were building little dams in the woods to play in, then we were done playing, remove the dam, pick up some trash and do it all over again the next weekend. Thanks for bringing up awesome memories! If your city, county or state does not hire you atleast for consultation... they are fools, all of them. Thanks again!

The gas station, if they had sense, probably pumped it down to the last drop before abandoning the station. So the tank is there but nothing in it to leak out

It only seems more messed up nowadays because everyone has a smartphone and internet access, so you're constantly exposed to human depravity from around the globe. I agree that post should always be cautious, but if you live life in constant fear of what 'might happen' - I think that's unhealthy.

That tree looks like it grew into that tire. That garbage has been there for awhile. Those jugs of black stuff looks like oil, from where someone changed oil in their vehicle, caught it up and left it out there to dispose of it that way because its illegal to just throw it away, hurts the environment.

@12:08... That place is awesome!!! Before the Interstates and Tollways... Traveling the USA was on US and State Routes. We live near the National Trail.. US 40... Cumberland Gap... There is so much history on that road that is missed when driving by on I-70.

It kind of seems unlikely the gasoline storage tank was removed but all the piping and fittings at the surface were left behind. I bet the place closed so long ago it predated the laws that say tanks have to be replaced every so many years, and removed after a station closes.

yes, After prohibition, restrictions were placed on how it could be sold in a number of states. Essentially, if you buy it by the bottle, it is in a packaged state, and liquor stamps are required to prove that it has been properly packaged and stamped for sale in that state. Thus, packaged goods.

I always picked up trash on my road when my kids were little and we would go for a walk. Then my Township started a program were they placed a sign with our name on it, "Adopt A Highway". So I gather all the stuff, big and small, then the Township picks it up. So rewarding! Post 10, you're a terrific guy!

i love watching this videos because you explain a lot of things. it allows me to see the differences between our countries and how the things work. And we collect the trash in our environment too. But I don't agree with leaving the tins. They may rot but animals can still hurt themselves on the edges. I don't understand people who ditch their trash in the woods. We have all the possibility to bring those things to the dump for free several times a year. No need to throw garbage in the woods. 🤬

I think that the small metal cap you where looking at was a well cap gas station mast have wells drilled so they can test the ground water to see if gas is leaking into the ground water. If you look at a lot of gas stations they have small caps like that for the well to test the ground water.

I would have been very nervous about picking up plastic containers with unknown substances inside but Post 10 with his consideration for the environment just had to move them to the roadside for later collection. That's one big dedication from the guy👍😉

Not sure about where you’re at, but up here in Alberta we pay an environmental levy when we purchase new tires. Most tire shops will take your old tires off you because of this, bill has already been paid. No need to go and dump them in the woods.
