Great I was beginning to think it was time to find out what histograms were that I hear getting mentioned. Also great to hear an English voice rather than a brash 'whats uuurrrp'!

Absolutely brilliant ..... exactly what I was after as, after using DSS, I always ended up with a much poorer result than with a single frame.

Great tutorial. Can the same be accomplished on layers or do the edits have to be destructive?

you can do a lot with layers but its best to develop your own work flow as telescopes and camera set ups vary so much.

If you mean which filter lens any good light pollution filter will be fine but I never use one myself as I have reasonably dark skies. If you can get a cheap second hand canon 350d and do the modification to take out the red light blocking filter you will have a great camera for astrophotography.

You could try it with a light pollution filter it will not be ideal but at least it will give you something to work with. However a good dark site really does make a big difference so if you can get out to a dark site for this one cloudy nights allowing that is.

Great tutorial. Is there any point in trying to photograph the horsehead from a light polluted location, will it be just washed out?
