There is the same story with stuffed cabbage as with dumplings - there is no canonical recipe. You can experiment with spices or come up with different and incredibly tasty fillings, such as making meatless stuffed cabbage. That's what we decided, so we will prepare stuffed cabbage rolls without rice, but with potato filling. Season the dish with tomato sauce to give the stuffing a slight sourness. It turned out very tasty and simple. These vegetarian rolls will fit perfectly into the lean menu.

Ingredients for stuffed cabbage:
1 white cabbage
1 kg of potatoes
3 bay leaves
5 peas of allspice
3-4 cloves of garlic
3 st. l. sunflower oil
2 bulbs
salt and pepper to taste
For refueling:
3 st. l. tomato paste
1 tsp. sugar
500 ml of water
Step-by-step recipe for cabbage rolls with potatoes
Prepare all the ingredients for lean stuffed cabbage with mashed potatoes. If you have yesterday's boiled potatoes, use it.
Prepare stuffing for stuffed cabbage. Peel 1 kg of vegetables and cut into equal small pieces so that the potatoes are evenly cooked. Transfer the potatoes to a saucepan, add 3 bay leaves, 5 allspice, 3 cloves garlic, salt and pepper to taste. Garlic cloves can not be cleaned.
Prepare cabbage leaves. Cut the head out of the medium white cabbage. In a large saucepan, bring water to a boil and place the cabbage.
The upper cabbage leaves will change their color to a more transparent one, then they can be removed. Prick the cabbage with a fork and carefully remove one leaf in a bowl. If you cut the head well, the cabbage leaves will fall off by themselves. Approximate interval between the readiness of the upper leaves - 2-3 minutes.
Prepare the roast for the filling. Peel an onion and cut it into medium cubes. Heat a frying pan with 3 tbsp. l. sunflower oil and fry the onions until soft and transparent, stirring occasionally.
Remove the garlic and spices from the pan, drain the water from the potatoes, but leave a little. If desired, discard it on a sieve. The less liquid in the potatoes, the better and denser the filling will be. Add fried onions to the boiled potatoes, mash them and let them cool completely so that the stuffing does not get wet during baking.
Be sure to cut the hard veins in the cabbage leaves to wrap the stuffing well and beautifully.
Turn on the oven to preheat to 180 degrees and form the rolls. Put a small amount of stuffing in a cabbage leaf and roll it into a roll, wrapping the edges. Spread the stuffed cabbage close to each other in a baking dish.
Prepare tomato dressing for stuffed cabbage. In a deep bowl, mix 3 tbsp. l. tomato paste and 1 tsp. sugar. Pour 500 ml of water. Mix the dressing well with a whisk or fork to dissolve the ingredients.
Pour over the stuffed cabbage. It is very important that the liquid completely covers the stuffing. Cover the form with foil and place in the oven for 1-1.5 hours, depending on the hardness of the cabbage at a temperature of 180 degrees. Finally, remove the foil to brown the stuffing on top, and cook for another 20 minutes.
