Now y'all understand all the thumb jokes Brandon and Donut make (Getting "Scotted" has become synonymous with a gun blowing up in the Gun community now). Scott being their friend, and being good humored about it, loves playing into those jokes. In fact, during the Gun Meme Review Brandon did after the accident, Brandon actually started feeling a little bad doing the memes and jokes and called Scott in the middle of the recording session to ask if it was okay to keep doing the jokes; to which Scott said, "Absolutely. Been loving these memes and they've been helping keep my spirits up" (To paraphrase).

If I recall correctly, Scott gave a much lower number than the real critical pressure of the RN-50. Mark Serbu said on his YT channel that the pressure that it would take to destroy that rifle like that is in excess of 150k PSI, and Scott did another video in a much safer manner, testing the critical failure level of the rifle, confirming that number from Serbu. The SLAP round that nearly killed him might as well have been a stick of dynamite.

I doubt he would have made like over 50k PSI stronger round for it. Some extra info on the accident that came at a way later date about this... turns out the round was a reload. And whoever reloaded that round used pistol rated powder instead of rifle powder. Pistol powder ignites fully like 3 to 4 times as fast as rifle powder due to the combustion rate of the powder. So this caused the gun to receive all of the pressure at the breach right as the trigger was pulled, rather than if it was rifle powder, where it would have been a slower burn that would have gradually created pressure as the round went down the barrel. Due to this, the powder burns pressure had no where to go besides the place of least resistence; which just so happened to be the back end of the gun. There are update videos from kentucky as well as mark serbu himself on what happened. And after watching the update videos from both people, it makes the whole thing feel even more wildly insane.

It was reloaded ammo, which was the problem. The person who loaded the rounds loaded it with a very very large amount of handgun rated gunpowder. Handgun powder burns much faster than rifle powder, so the pressure became an issue in the gun. This is what happens when you purchase ammo that you don't actually know the history of. Only use reloaded ammunition that comes from a known trusted reloader. Old ammo and gun show "surplus" ammo has the chance of being a sketchy reload, so be wary. Shooting new manufactured ammunition is safe. Shooting ammunition from a known trusted reloader can be safe, assuming said reloader doesn't make a mistake like using the wrong powder....

He used the last of the slap ammo and found out that almost all of it was loaded way too hot but none of them caused the rifle to catastrophically fail, then he loaded a .50 BMG round that he had intentionally made waaaaaaay too hot and it exploded almost exactly the same way. This was a round that was tampered with and fantastically beyond normal pressures. Scott went on to test a replacement gun with the remaining rounds he had purchased and all but two of them showed signs of excessive pressures, though none of them enough to blow the gun up. He finally fired off a round that had a known calculated excessive pressure, suspected of being close to what nearly killed him. The gun blew up in almost the same exact way. Now we need Kip to react to what he’s shooting now, like the 4 Bore or the 577 Tyrannosaur 😂

I was watching this late at night it made me start to feel queasy, I try to make my my down stairs and I faint for a second or two almost just tumbling down the stairs, and my parents heard me thud against the floor. They had to drag me downstairs cover me in ice packs to call me down. Because at this point I can barely stand I feel like I’ll pass out and I’m cold sweating up a storm. After this they have to put me in a cold shower cause I just wasn’t getting better then after nearly an hour of just sitting in the shower I start to get better, I’m all fine now. TLDR the video made me sick I almost passed out down the stairs and had generally awful time. Ps love your work Chicago reacts!

*yelling at you* The pausing was fine, dude, it was absolutely fine xD I LIKE the pausing, it doesn't produce a garbled mess. Makes the vids very professional.

The amount of odds that had to break to get that gun to detonate AND for Scott to survive would mean that if he played the numbers at a lottery he'd probably be rich.

Pause all you want man, you know how to get your point across nice and quick - very clean work IMO. Hell you even got perfect comedic timing with it!

aaand now you probably get the "getting scotted", "selling a fuckton of T-shirts" and thumb jokes other guntubers have made(as well as the "getting serbu-ed" joke from the 50 BMG pistol vid)... edit: btw kit, how numb was your arm by the end of this video?

You know this means you need to watch Kentucky Ballistics' "What happens when X gun goes boom?" series right?

I remember when this happened. It was all the talk at work. I actually made a new close friend over lunchroom conversation about Scott's accident. We ended up staying friends after we both left that job and have become bass fishing and shooting buddies in the years since.

This is terrifying because with all the details I can just imagine, his dad yelling like "Scotty!" and rushing over to him, knowing that they're a Sr and Jr those are just the kinds of thoughts that come to mind.

It's an absolute miracle that Scott survived that. Losing one's bowels is frankly an appropriate response to how bad that was. This took the gun turned into a hand grenade thing to the extreme.

i like how persistent he was on giving Scott (Kentucky ballistics) credit for this video. not a lot of people do that and I admire that

So, afterwards there was some investigation into the rounds he used, bye both him and Mark Serbu. Best explanation is that the SLAP round was a reload, and whoever did the reload used pistol powder instead of rifle powder. Pistol powder burns much faster and is intended for short barrels and smaller amounts, not large amounts and long barrels.

God was with Scott that day and to this. The community could have lost him, though his race hasn't been run. Be careful of those rounds that just want to be Extra.
