I never tire of hearing about Victorian literature! I can’t wait to read more Gaskell and Grania in 2020!

Hope you haven't had enough of Victorian literature talk she says!!! NEVER!!! And I'm sure I'm not alone in that! I think Sylvia's lovers is my next Gaskell to pick up. I think maybe I'll like it more than most as I loved Ruth by her and that's one that normally gets put towards to bottom of people's favourites lists. We shall see xx

Thank you!!! I really enjoyed Ruth - I forget to talk about it because I'm so enthusiastic about her other works.

Was waiting for you to mention Return of the Native! It was the first book to pop up in my mind when you were explaining the aesthetic you loved. Loved that book, the scenery definitely elevated the mood and almost felt fantastical at times (in a good way).

Wuthering Heights was the book that hooked me in to the Victorian gothic genre, and many years later Classic and Neo Victorian gothic is the sub genre I read almost exclusively. It's very exciting to hear from other lovers of gothic literature! I will definitely have to read Return of the Native, as it sounds right up my alley.

Never not in the mood for Victorian talk! I am currently reading How to be a Victorian by Ruth Goodman so I'm still firmly with one foot in that time period. I should reread Wuthering Heights one day, I didn't either love or hate it but wasn't very drawn to it either - the more I hear about people whose opinions has changed on that book with multiple readings, the more curious I am to revisit it. I'm definitely sold on Sylvia's Lovers based on the passage you read out, how utterly beautiful and atmospheric!

Great video! AHHHH Wuthering Heights! It is a novel in which i HATED EVERYONE yet still loved the novel. Grania, I read thanks to you and was one of my favorites for the year. I plan to re read it sometime next year. I have never read Welsh Witch or Return of the Native or Sylvia's Lovers, although now I want to :)

I love this intense, otherworldly aesthetic too, Kate! And this is a great idea for a video. I have the A Welsh Witch on my TBR, ever since you talked about it (two Victobers ago, I believe?). And Grania seems so interesting... My TBR keeps getting bigger and bigger! :)

I'm so happy to see another Victorian literature video. I love Sylvia's Lovers so much! The setting is one of my favourite aspects of it. It's so fresh and free and wonderful to be by the sea!

I've returned to this video because I also love this aesthetic for Victorian novels. I have reread Grania recently and loved it even more than the first time because I took it slowly and just absorbed the story without trying to wonder what would happen . I still have not read the Welsh Witch. It is not at my library and it is difficult to find a reasonably priced copy online. I have Sylvia's Lovers on my summer TBR . I can't wait to get to it. As for Return of the Native - fabulous ! I have now read all of Hardy's novels . Not related to this video as it does not have the aesthetic you mention, but My all time favorite of his will always be J*d* The Ob**u**e ( not spelling it out so that i don't traumatize you lol) p.s. I laugh so hard whenever you mention the book that shall not be named in videos and insert the beep lol

That's a cool idea! None come to mind immediately but I'll be thinking and mulling over this. I almost think it might be a Victorian thing but might come up with some other ones by looking through my book collection.
