In Santiago, chile, the subway had for 30 years a missing line, the line 3. Until 2018, the lines of the Santiago subway were 1,2,4,4a,5 and 6. 4a is a branch of line 4. Line 3 was in planning first in 1984, but in 1985 there was an earthquake that maked use of the funds for the line into rebuilding of the country. Suddenly, at that time there was just only lines 1 and 2, but the next line to be built was line 5, opened in 1997, being line 4 opened in 2005. In 2018 line 3 was opened and now there is order on the line numbers.

Buenos Aires has the same problem, our Underground lines are named after letters. We have lines A, B, C, D, E and H. Lines F, G and even I are all planed, but construction haven't started yet. Line H was started first in 2007 because it was determined that it was the most needed as it will be the second perpendicular line of the network and will aliviate Line C. Construction for Line F had been anounced since 2014, and every year there is a new anouncement but never happened because of the recession.

@yourlocaltoad5102

The U5 is still under construction, but I already hate it. As the tunnels will go under parts of the 8th district, some of the old buildings need to get their fundament reworked. My building was one of these buildings and so I had the joy of having workers drilling and working directly under my flat for 10 hours every day for 2 months straight. It was impossible to sleep, work or do anything there without getting extreme headaches and now my flat has a big fat crack, as the buildings structural integrity was compromised. So I dare to say, your last statement was wrong. Vienna cant sleep in peace -most of vienna can, but some of us have to sacrifice their sleep for our infrastructural expansion.
@walterxbenjamin
4 жыл бұрын
Arguably thinks like your flat having a crack should be adressed by city and landlord. The U5 does fill a couple of pretty large gaps in the ÖPNV system - like Hernals or the Wienerberg, especially the latter has always been a massive headache to get to as well as giving some relief to the chronically overcrowded 13A. So in conclusion: thank you for your sacrifice. A lot of people depend on it.

In Helsinki, for ages, we had tram lines 1, 1A, 3B, 3T, 4, 4T, 6, 7A, 7B, 8 and 10. Then the 9 was built, 3B and 3T became the 2 and 3, the circle formed by 7A and 7B was changed to become just 7, a solid line stretching from Pasila in the north, down to West Ferry Terminal (Länsiterminaali) in the south. Then finally 4T was cut back to start at Central Railway station, so it was renumbered to 5 because it only shared a bit of line with the 4. Now we have a less confusing tram numbering system.

Munich has no S5 because it is now incorporated into the S8 line. But the S5 did exist when it was first opened in 1972 for the Munich Olympics. Some routing stuff with the S3 and S8 happened, and the airport line vetoed the decision to renumber the lines, and so for a brief period, S3 did not exist, and now the S5 does not exist because it became the S8.
