Vince Russo was the reason many in the attitude era still had a job. He made almost everyone on the roster relevant within the storyline. They made a lot of money at the time. After he left WW(F)E slowly went back to just focusing on the main event wrestlers. Show was getting less and less enjoyable to watch and stay tuned to.

@Omar Let me make this fact abundantly clear since you appear brain damaged.... *NO ONE LIKES RUSSO.* Not one single person. So it’s truly not complicated to clearly see that Russo’s work always ends in failure. It’s evident because it’s just not one or two or even three people that agree that Russo ruins everything he touches, it’s EVERYONE who acknowledges this fact. Especially TNA/impact and WWE executives. What’s certain is that you’ll never see Russo in a reputable wrestling company ever again because they ALL know Russo’s work will eventually result in failure thus in loss. Reputable companies have to much at stake to lose. They won’t dare hire Russo. The only place you might find Russo are in the indies. That’s it. So don’t hold your breath hoping to see him in WWE, TNA, New Japan, or AEW. Only the indies “might” accept his failures since they have not much to lose.

@Hamburger Stalker Jim being "unsuccessful in every promotion he's been in" is factually false & can be disproven with basic research. As far as a "Success like Russo" success for how long? His hot-shotting way of booking (where he throws everything at the wall to see if it sticks) is one of the main catalysts for the "wrestling" we get today. Stephanie McMahon hired TV writers because of the "ratings" Vince Russo "brought" (even though he had the 3 biggest stars in wrestling on the roster & a world renowned production crew). TNA sunk in large part due to him & Dixie Carter, point blank. As for WCW, he helped sink an already sinking ship. While Jim has proven that he lacks a filter when he gets hot, he had already been successful for 10 BEFORE he joined the WWF (and he left WCW on his own accord). You disagreeing with Jim doesn't negate the fact that Vince Russo proved to be a cancer everywhere he has gone (which is only 3 places, because HE ISN'T A WRESTLING GUY).

Russo is the same as most other wrestling guys like Bishof and Vince, had some good shit but surrounded by numerous illusionary bubbles of self importance with no normality around them, so they become completely unable of logic based thought within the context of wrestling storylines and booking. @TheNextStep851

Politics are what prevented Russo from growing WCW and TNA more than he did. All of the people who rag on his WCW run don't know the actual facts and are regurgitating bullcrap they've heard by revisionists. He was head of creative in WCW for 3 months and he took the rating from a 2.6 to a 3.4. Nobody was going to get the rating from a 2.6 to a 5.0 in that time frame because that's not how TV works. Look at all the successful shows and you'll see it took years for them to peak. It took the WWF almost 3 years to hit its peak with RAW. Gaining the trust of the audience takes time, regardless of whether your show is good or not. 1997 proves that. It's much, much easier to lose viewers than it is to gain them.

@@datemasamune2904 Or, you could look at the viewership he improved in all 3 major companies he worked for. You could look at the praise he gets from the likes of Austin, Rock, Foley, Angle, HBK, Styles, Sting, Nash, JR, King, Booker T and so many others. Konnan has stated he started a petition to get Russo back in charge of creative when Russo went home in January of 2000, and he also confirmed that the majority of the roster signed it. This is why you shouldn't buy into the BS of a handful of jealous rivals who were replaced by him because they couldn't lace his boots in terms of viewership numbers.

The thing that I’ve always considered is that if Russo and Cornette worked together they could have had a good run. If Russo wrote the storylines and Corny booked the matches it might have worked. If Cornette was there to pull Russo back in if his storylines got a little out of control I bet it might have worked.

@@rexventura4603 He's not a good booker because he was always trapped in the 80's. SMW went under while ECW thrived. He's the reason along with Prichard that 83 Weeks is even a thing. WWF in 1996 had a paper thin midcard, a paper thin tag division, and a non-existent womens division. RAW was HORRIBLE in 1996 and hit a record low in December. Austin won KOTR 96 and was kept off 4 of the next 6 PPVs. HBK was the babyface John Cena and Roman Reigns of his time with the crowd turning against him, and Rocky Maivia was being told to die by the fans. The crowds were tired of watching hokey garbage and were demanding change. Russo turned it around by giving the roster solid character work and memorable segments that are still talked about today. Dixie Carter absolutely picked the right guy, because 2 years after Cornette left, TNA hit record high viewership, surpassing 2m viewers. Cornette was against the creative direction that resulted in record high viewership. He's a ratings repellent.

Cornette takes wrestling VERY seriously, and Russo doesn't. Russo tore down all the things that Cornette believes made wrestling work. I tend to think that Cornette was right and Russo was wrong. That's not to say that every idea Cornette ever had was gold, or that Russo never came up with a good idea. On the whole, however, Cornette gets it. He's all about building things up and making sure the storyline/psychology makes sense. Russo doesn't care if it makes sense, he just throws things at the wall to see if they'll stick.
