Cosmin's plane hammers are just gorgeous - well done, sir! I'll go with Fay's answer to the 'Hebrew Minute' - she is a walking 'Strong's Concordance', truly! Glad you have heat now (and a quiet shop again). I liked the black and white segment of fitting the violin neck. So many dimensions that need to come together - not for the feint-of-heart! Thanks for another fun video! Stupidicus.

Thanks Tim! Hopefully Cosmin will see your comments! Lord willing, the heat will get finished tomorrow. I hope you have an awesome week!

I am glad to see Y'all still had power though much of your area lost it. And, I am glad to see you weren't blown away by those hurricane level winds nor the tornado. We had minor fence damage but is repaired. Our property was spared.

Yes, that is great that your property was spared! Thanks for thinking of us. I hope you have a great week and how is that harp coming?

You've had a challenging week by the look of it, so thanks for posting as usual. I loved the black and white "silent movie" segment. You must feel you're on the home straight now the neck is on. Very best wishes to you.

The Hebrew minute is from Zechariah 1:3. He sure stresses the Lord of hosts--three times in that one verse. It looks like you are getting a lot more rain than we are. It's kind of a dry winter for us. There sure is a lot of detailed work that goes into making a violin. Congrats on being able to do that kind of work! I'm not that patient or detail-oriented.

Yes, you got that Hebrew Minute! Did you have to look it up or did you already know it? Our Kentucky is green again. This winter was quite different from the other winters. Thanks for your faithful comments and I hope you have a great blessed week!

Hi Cheryl, I love the shape and arching on the new violin. What mould was it made on?
@Violinsforu2
Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Mike! I am quite thrilled that you can see the arching. I did work on making it a little more dramatic and a bit deeper than normal. It is a Strad 1727 mold, a copy of one of the molds from Albert's shop. Thanks for commenting and I hope you have an awesome blessed week!

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and process so freely. I’m in West Virginia; do you have any strong opinions about our appalachian domestic woods as tonewoods? Although not domestic, we’re taking down some big Norway spruce in our yard and I’m going to see if there’s any suitable wood for tops hiding in there.

Hi Geordie, Thanks for asking. Because the winters are more fierce in Europe, I like that tonewood the best, but if you have it here in your own yard, sure go for it. The thing is that you want to let it air dry for at least 10 years to get all the movement out of the wood. If you kiln dry it, it will destroys the fibers that are good for vibration. Nice that we are neighbors! Feel free to come by anytime. Hope you have a great week!

@@Violinsforu2 Thank you for the generous offer, I will take you up on it if and when I’m in the area. I’m in it for the long haul, so if I find some poker-straight grain in a big enough quarter-chunk, I suppose there’s no harm in trying!

@@geordiecs That is great! You do need a lot of patience and it sounds like you got it and don't forget to tap the wood and listen for that tone!😊

What break angle of the strings at the bridge do you work towards? What position of the nut to the rib / top joint do you align to ?

Hi Jonviol, I am so glad you are enjoying the channel. It is only a look into the violin shop on a weekly basis. If you need answers to all these questions, you might consider an apprenticeship or a violin school where you can get all the details. Thanks for commenting and hope you have a wonderful week!
