We’re experiencing so many incredible small but significant breakthroughs with Michael’s language development. Michael has always had a larger receptive vocabulary and understanding compared to his expressive abilities. However, determining the full scope of his receptive language has always been challenging. Recently, he’s been showing increased responsiveness to the nuances of the language we use to communicate with him. And this is evident in how he responds to more complex instructions and questions, demonstrating a deeper understanding of context and subtle variations in our speech. For example, he can understand the difference between “backwards” and “back” in various contexts and situations, even though these distinctions weren’t specifically modeled or taught. This progress indicates that his ability to process and interpret language is expanding rapidly. He’s picking up on far more words, naturally, than we can track, and his comprehension is increasing at an impressive rate. And these breakthroughs are not only enhancing his communication skills but also boosting his confidence and engagement in everyday interactions. Each new word he understands and responds to is a testament to his growing linguistic capabilities, and it fills us with hope and excitement for his continued development. 📔eBook on Joint Attention & collection of activities, link in BIO 🔗 👑 The Full Mini-vlogs on our education, therapy and lifestyle approach on the Instagram Subscribers’ Page 👑 📌Michael does have some sensory-related difficulties, but they aren’t severe. While we make every effort to accommodate his needs, we also take a balanced approach by gradually exposing him to sensory challenges. This allows him to learn to focus, manage, and cope in situations where accommodations aren’t readily accessible. By equipping him with these abilities, we minimize the risk of him eloping or encountering potentially dangerous situations due to unexpected sensory inputs. Ultimately, our goal is to support Michael in developing the tools he needs to thrive in diverse environments and experience greater independence and confidence. He can’t develop these tools without facing, understanding, and gradually learning to cope with and manage his sensory challenges. #heartwarming #cute #toddler #parenting #autism #ASL #signlanguage #nonspeaking #nonverbal #autismawareness #autismjourney #neurodivergent #parentingtips #representationmatters #cute #handsome #toddlermom #autismadvocate #autismparenting #parentingautism #communication #inspiration #motivation #milestones
