The Netherlands has had its glorious period as a seafaring nation and this is reflected in a number of idioms: * het gaat hem voor de wind - litt it goes him in front of the wind: his business is doing very well * Dit argument raakt kant noch wal - litt this argument touches neither side nor quay: this argument is void, meaningless * tussen wal en schip raken - litt to get between quay and ship: not getting the appropiate help from the standard institutions * bakzeil halen - litt get back sail: failing to get what you want * (saying) de beste stuurlui staan aan wal - litt the best helmsmen are on shore: it's easy to criticize as an outsider.

Howdy partner! I think "I reckon" means I guess so / Probably In dutch we greet each other like: Hey, alles goed? Ja, lekker. En met jou? Ook goed! And then we continue with a conversation or end it by saying: Ok, zie je! or Later! We used to have The Dukes of Hazzard running on television in the Netherlands in the 80's.

about he saying you have 'you catch more flies with honey', In Dutch there is a very similar one: "je vangt meer vliegen met stroop dan met azijn" which translates to; "You catch more flies with sirup then with vinegar"

I have no idea where "y'all" started as an abrevation or where the Cultural appropriation started/who culturally appropriated it from whom... I know I've been using it a long time myself. I'd not heard the "more hat than cattle" before but that sure does sound to me like something that probably started in Texas. What do y'all call "fizzy softdrinks" in Texas? Pop, Soda or... ???

The last expression 'you catch more flies with honey' is not that strange to me. In dutch there's an idiom: je vangt geen vliegen met azijn (you don't catch flies with vinegar) meaning the same thing.

@@TheSeNaBi Yes, that’s the one. You catch more flies with honey (or syrup) than with vinegar.
