Jeddah Tower, also known as the Kingdom Tower, was supposed to be the tallest building in the world, superseding the 828 m (2,717 ft) Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. But construction was abandoned in 2018, and the tower has been sitting unfinished ever since. So what happened? In this video, we'll take a look at the history of the Jeddah Tower and try to figure out why construction was stopped. We'll also give you an update on the tower's status in 2023.
The skyscraper will be part of the large-scale Kingdom City development located along the Red Sea on the north side of Jeddah. The tower was designed by American architect Adrian Smith, of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, whose firm designed the Burj Khalifa and the Willis Tower.
