Fascinating and well thought through. As dealers we are also conscious of the way many brands are going direct online ...the restrictions they place on the dealer network is a more problematic issue. There is a sense in which the brands have been happy for retailers to do the main build up work on ecommerce and then jump on the ensuing bandwagon...now in some cases to the exclusion of retailers altogether. One cannot be wildly optimistic about the long term future of dealerships like ourselves in this context...the decision to, in the case mentioned, exclude the like of yourselves but still work with Amazon is also troubling...as for 3D printing this is an area many of us struggle to get our head round...do thanks for flagging it up.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on plumafill, capilene air’s 3D weave, and polartec alpha and others as an update

Very cool. Other than Nike, who else would you consider to be at the forefront of 3D/printed fabrics?

It seems to be the major brands like Nike, New Balance, etc that are jumping on it early. 3-D printing unlocks an entirely new level of design for them. Track athletes are now using 3-D printed running shoes. This is all still very early stage, but at the rate technology is advancing, and the rate that technology is getting adopted, I predict this will move very fast. Every day I read new articles discussing 3-D printing applications in medicine, construction, and in consumer products. It is moving very fast.

How many years are we away from having a jacket that keeps you 100% warm and toasty on a cold day and is still thin.

How come most manufacturers sell waterproof jackets with waterproof fabrics (example: gore-tex pro) with water resistant zippers? Most jackets use YKK Aquaguard Vislon or variants. If water can penetrate the main zip isn't it misleading to call the jacket waterproof?

Been a while since this video now... have any of your predictions (synthetic down plumes, 3D printed fabrics) come true yet?
