I'm stunned to have learnt some practical information from this episode - about the square manhole cover divided into two triangles to prevent it rocking or clanking as traffic goes over it. I have seen that design and assumed it was made in two pieces in order to reduce the effort of lifting the full weight out of the manhole for maintaining the sewer or drain beneath. Well, that would be helpful but the main purpose is to stop a square cover pivoting on a pebble or a bit of dirt trapped under the rim. A triangle is more stable in that respect - just like a three-legged stool that can't wobble when on leg is longer than the others. We learn something every day, and who knew that cattle photographer was a job?
