Scott came to our office 3 months ago after suffering from the repercussions of a motor vehicle accident. Like many, Scott initially thought that the accident had little effect on him. However, as time past after the accident, Scott started to suffer from chronic neck pain, shoulder pain, reduced neck range of motion, and chronic headaches. He also was not able to work out because of the pain and as a result, his family suggested that he come to our Los Angeles Upper Cervical Health Care Office.
Like every new patient who comes to our office, Scott had a complete history of his accident, had a battery of neurological tests performed to pinpoint which upper cervical vertebrae were misaligned, and then had precision X-rays taken. Our goal with the Blair procedure is to locate, analyze, and correct spinal misalignments to allow the body to heal itself. In Scott's case, he had a rapid response. Every case is different, however as Scott discusses in the embedded video, within the first week his headaches reduced, his neck pain improved, and overall he knew he was in the right place. Like most health conditions, when someone undergoes Blair Upper Cervical corrective care, it takes time for the tissues to repair. As a consequence, it is not an overnight process. As Scott explains, it took him many weeks before he was pain-free and feeling like his old self. Fortunately, after many weeks Scott was also able to return to his workouts
Whiplash Prevalence
Whiplash is a common injury that can occur from multiple sources including car accidents, sports injuries, and slip and falls. More than 3 million new cases of whiplash occur each year. More than 50% of those progress to some degree of chronic symptoms. Whiplash injuries occur 5 times more often in women than men. Whiplash injuries occur more often in people 30 to 50 years of age. Women seem to experience more problems than men from whiplash. This is the result of a more petite structure that does not withstand the acceleration-deceleration forces as well as men. Regardless, whiplash injury can have severe long term consequences if the injury that occurs is not corrected properly.
How Does Whiplash Cause so Many Different Health Issues?
The anatomical relationship of the head and neck makes it susceptible to injury during whiplash. Because the head weighs ten pounds and the top vertebrae in the neck, the atlas, weighs 2 ounces, it is the most unstable junction in the spine. When whiplash occurs the weight of the head and the forces generated during injury can tear the supporting ligaments, tendons, and soft tissue. When this occurs a cascade of postural and neurological adaptations ensue.
The brainstem, housed in the top two bones of the neck, is the seat of control for most autonomic functions in the body. In fact, it controls postural muscle tone, cardiac function, thermoregulation, blood pressure regulation, balance, and many other vital functions. As a consequence, if it interferes with it can affect almost any function in the body.
What Exactly Does a Blair Upper Cervical Doctor Do?
Blair Upper Cervical doctors are specially trained to locate spinal misalignments in the upper cervical spine and correct them. Spinal misalignment is located by running a battery of neurological tests that locate the spinal segments that have been injured and misaligned by a prior neck injury.
Once located, precision imaging in the form of digital x-ray or cone-beam computed tomography (Cbct) is used to precisely determine which joint has misaligned and the angulation of the misaligned joint. Each person’s anatomy is different and therefore imaging is used to uncover the blueprint to be used to correct each patient’s individual misalignment pattern.
Once this information is gleaned, a gentle, light correction is made without twisting, popping, or pulling. The patient is then monitored over time to ensure that the correction is holding. If the testing indicates the need for another correction, then it is performed. However, the goal of Blair Upper Cervical Care is for the patient to stay in “adjustment”.
It isn’t the correction that produces healing. It is the removal of nerve irritation and the adjustment “holding” in its normal position that allows the body to function better and proceed through a healing process. This is how Blair Chiropractic treatment can help patients who suffer from a host of health complaints just like Scott.
Our office gives a free consultation for anyone who is interested in determining if they are having health issues that result from upper neck spinal misalignment. If you are interested we have two offices in Los Angeles. Our Los Angeles office number is 213 399-7772 and Carson's office is 310 324-6172.
