If you want to train cross-modally, try my ebook and training program: www.thebioneer.com/shop/sft2
Those predominantly interested in building strength or hypertrophy will typically focus on lifting weights. They may even say that cardio will "destroy your gains." They might suggest that training complex movements will only take away from your strength workouts.
I've always claimed that training for a variety of modalities at once will result in the best performance. I've always said that losing a little bit of size is worth it if you get to balance your physique with some endurance.
I definitely stand by this. But you know what? I also think that training cross-modally can build the very best physiques. In fact, I've experienced it first hand!
For instance: a lot of people actually prefer a less gigantic, muscle-bound physique. Especially, if gaining a lot of muscle comes at the cost of adding lots of fat. Adding cardio and endurance training to your workouts might not be the fastest way to add muscle... but your physique will be more ripped and shredded, at the same time.
Moreover, doing strength endurance and cardio will actually provide you with more work capacity so that you can train longer and harder at the gym. Better yet, it can encourage more blood flow to the muscles. This happens in the short term but also over time thanks to something called "angiogenesis." In other words: you actually create more blood vessels to supply the muscles with more blood.
Combining slower and faster training will train the slow and fast twitch muscle fibres. And will help to nourish the tendons, as well.
As for skills training, this can actually result in a more detailed and 3D physique. For example: adding more rotation to your workouts will endure you develop obliques. Training straight-arm strength will give you more pronounced serrates muscles. The list goes on!
I believe the body is MEANT to operate in multiple domains. And I think your physique will reflect that.
